• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSXA LOD's for Hi-Res Photoreal?

Hello,
I have recently been playing with some super high resolution photoreal for an airport. The raw data itself is 3.5cm/px, but as we all know, FSX is only good up to 7cm/px, so I have had to dumb down this imagery. I currently have assigned the imagery a LOD of 4,19. When I load it in the sim though, it loads in small sections, at max resolution, that take a little while to load. (See below) It looks like it's ignoring the lower LOD, yet it shows in TMF Viewer?

Any ideas on how to fix this? What LOD do I need to assign? Or could this possibly be an issue with it being overlaid on 30cm/px imagery?

Edit: After further trial and error, it seems it is an issue with the 30cm being overlaid by the 7cm. Is there any way to show hierarchy with the 30cm and 7cm .bgl's in the same scenery folder? If I move the 7cm to a higher scenery folder, the issue is pretty much resolved. (except it still doesn't load smoothly around where the blend is) I would like to keep this airport all in one folder if at all possible.

Thanks

With such a problem faced in FlyTampa Vienna scenery with Aerosoft Austria Professional HD (http://www.flytampa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6851)
Problem solution not found. Anyone have any thoughts on this? When they meet in one place sim any addons of different resolutions and size (territory) - photoscenery with low-res visible above hi-res photoscenery at a distance view. LOD setting in INF file for resample don`t fix this problem!

Hi,
may be you could try this.
Your LOD is 4,19
I don't know the underlaying Lod but guess is something like 5-15.
Try to change your lower LOD like 6-19 in order to get it higher than the background imagery.
May be it could help..

Photoscenery other addon maker has LOD from 4 to 16 (i call this "lo-res") and "hi-res" photoscenery (by me) has LOD from 4 to 18.

My problem visible like on screen of first message this topic, but rename file don`t fix it. Replace scenery layers in FS library don`t fix it also.

I try change different LODs of my photoscenery. It was LOD 4-16, 4-18, 0-16, 0-18, 3-16, 3-18. No work

Holy bump batman. I'm pretty bad at getting back to these threads I guess. Almost a year and a half bad. I need to get back to work on this airport eventually. I hate to see that imagery taken for nothing.. Just time, real world stuff, other projects, etc. You know the story as well as I do. It's happened to all of us.

Howdy. This imagery was gathered via drone. I have a pilot friend that owns a fully licensed UAV business. We obtained permission from the owner of this airport to bring the drone out and map the airport during their off season. (It's a banner tow strip)

Hi all:

Sorry I missed this thread when it was originally "in process".

I hope Christopher might still be inclined to make a version of this scenery which uses the original 3.5 cm imagery ...considering this info:

Excellent and practical info in this thread ! :)

For those curious as to the upper limits of FSX for display of photo-real textures, Richard Ludowise (aka "rhumbaflappy") shared his tests with us here:

3.5cm per pixel

Happy experimenting !
