• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

Please can someone help me.

I have tried to make a simple FSX object with SketchUp.

And MCX.

I did as follows.

Made simple shed in SketchUp

Exported as .dae file

Imported .dae file into MCX

Changed the textures to.dds

Tried to export as FSX .mdl file but numerous error messages appear.

I enclose the .dae file and the compiling errors log from MCX.

Hello,...

Where are the FSX SDK files located on your HD? and do you have admin privileges for the SDK set properly? It would seem,.. that MCX doesn't have admin privileges set properly.

Hello Doug…..

Thanks for the reply.

I am not really sure how to tell if MCX is set up admin privileges wise.

But I am shown as “computer administrator” in my user account

Any help with that welcome

The SDK tools are located in the install default C: drive folders.

I note they all show the same locations as my ADE FSX and that works fine.

With the same tools I think.

The only difference being my main FSX folder is located on a partition of the same hard derives called drive D:

The MCX options tab shows it knows where the FSX main folder and SDK tools are located and FSX is the preferred version.

Any more ideas on what could be wrong and how to sort this out welcome,

Regards,

DEEGE

Hello...

Find and locate where you have placed MCX, and right-click on the executable file. Click on "Properties". On the the first screen, "General" tab, make sure at the attributes section that nothing appears as Blocked. Next, goto the "Compatibility" tab, make sure the "Run this problem as an administrator" is checked. Click on the"Apply", then "OK".

Run MCX and try to compile.

What maybe the difference between ADE working and MCX not, Is that ADE goes through the registry (by how its installed on a computer) . With MCX, its not installed, by the registry,... therefore not going through the UAC for permissions to be set,... So the above will manually do so,...

I hope that helps / works.

Doug….

Here are the screenshots of my MCX executable tabs.

The one you mentioned in compatibility “Run this problem as an administrator"is not there.

My windows are XP version so that must be different to yours.

Is there a problem with MCX and Windows XP in any other way?

Could that be my problem?

Hello,...

To answer your question concerning problem with MCX and Windows XP is "No"... I have ran MCX, as many others, under XP before.

OK,... try this: With Windows XP: Right-click on the MCX executable and it should give you the option to run the program as an admin... If your model compiles after doing this,... Then what you can do is create a shortcut that will run as admin by right-clicking on the shortcut as mentioned before. I hope that makes sense.

If you have already created a shortcut for MCX,... you can right-click on it and edit so that it runs as admin accordingly

It works fine here on XP.

BTW. You seem to be missing DirectX.dll which should be in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2902.0\

The proper checkbox is named "Run this program as an Administrator".

The right click brings up dialog box with option to log on as administrator with a password.

Clicking Administrator option returns “password cannot be blank”

All password options on my machine were left blank on installation so I don’t have a password to logon with.

I don’t want to start altering my machine settings so is there any way around this?

I am logged on every time as administrator as I am the only person who uses this machine.

Logging on as Administrator gives admin privileges to you, not necessarily the software you run.

It sounds like you need to set a password for your user account (Control Panel > Users) to be able to run software as an admin.

This is a pretty basic setting and one that I use on many different computers. The only impact it will have on you is requiring you to log in to your computer with a password.

Whether assigning a password fixes your compile problems or not, it is easily reversible if you would rather not have to log on with a password.

cheers,
Lane

Hello...

Just to follow-up:

All of Arno's Tools require .NET Framework version 4.0 as of January 13, 2015... That's according to a post by Arno on that date. The manual doesn't state that version though.

Also... Windows XP doesn't come with that version... it does need to be installed by user.
