• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Reclaim/Expand land problem

Hello everyone,

I am trying to reclaim some land for my Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni project.

For the re-development of the airport, the military have moved the runway and aprons almost 1 km into the sea, reclaiming land to make that possible.
Now i also want to reclaim that land in FSX.

With the new AFCAD installed in FSX, you can see that the new runway lays on the water.

No i have used ADE, first to exclude the water polys and second, to create a terrain poly around the around the reclaimed land. (Both are in the same CVX file).

After placing the CVX file in FSX, this was the outcome:

As you can see, the green airport background was the boundary in which I wanted to reclaime/create new land, but FSX created a huge area of land that i don't want.

My guess is that the problem is the water exclusion touching the default land, as a lot of different tutorials warn about that problem, like the sentence below:
"DO NOT draw your exclusion polygon too close to any default land you want to keep. The exclusion will remove ALL the water polygons from any 1km tile it touches in FSX so the removed area of water can be much larger than your exclusion polygon"

Because i am expanding land, I think the polygons will have to touch the default land.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

There are a lot of tutorials for creating islands, but i am not creating an island, just expanding land.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Randy Mulder

Hello:

ADE certainly can perform some, if not all, of the less airport-specific FS terrain scenery modifications that you appear to want.

However, you may find it helpful, and perhaps easier, to first become more familiar with the required workflow (involving exclusion and replacement of land class terrain polygons that underlie and are adjacent to the airport), by using SBuilderX while following pertinent portions of this tutorial:

http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?250762-How-to-create-photoreal-scenery-for-FSX

Although your project description does not thus far seem to involve use of photo-real aerial imagery as a form of "custom land class", use of the default land classes and airport backgrounds as textured polygons (with or without blending), is a parallel concept to the use of 'custom' land class polygons ...as discussed in the above linked tutorial.

PS: If you are also using FTX Global, you may need to utilize certain types of polygons to "successfully" exclude the OrbX substitute custom land class "Park" vector polygons before layering other replacement land class texture polygons (within a scenery library GUI Area level above other scenery covering your airport) for your own scenery.

Hope this helps ! :)

You excluded the waterpoly, which exposed the underlying landclass tile. You need to make a new waterpoly (and perhaps shoreline), which will re-mask the underlying landclass tile.

Thank you GaryGB!

Will definitely take a look at the tutorial!

Happy holidays.
