• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Resample.exe performance question

Hi,

I'm currently working on a Photoreal comprising 9 .bmp files [includes 3 'Night' Bitmaps] and 6 TIFF files totaling approx. 5Gb.

Even at a single LOD 16 [rather than Auto LOD] it's taking over an hour to compile the data...

Using 'Process Explorer' software, I can see that resample.exe is using less than 10% of CPU resource even after changing the Priority to 'Realtime'.

Does anyone have any tips to improve the performance of the resample.exe compilation?

Regards,

Dave.

About the only thing you can do is divide your sources up so you get multiple .bgls and then you can run more than one instance of resample at the same time. Also if you use LZW compression on your .tifs it will triple the compile time.

For processing bigger areas at high resolution resample is indeed a bit slow. I think this is mainly due to all the IO activity to the disk. Also the tool uses only one core, so it won't use all CPU power available.

1 hour is not that bad, I have a scenery where it took around 8 hours to compile the entire island.

Thank you JRobinson and Arno for the replies - very useful indeed!

Removing the LZW compression from the six .TIF files reduced the compile time from 1Hr 10Mins to 35 mins with no change in the size of the .bgl [actually slightly smaller] and no apparent resolution depreciation either.

I also moved the files to my fastest HDD so this may have made a slight improvement but certainly not 50%...

Thanks again. Dave.

Hi,
I use internal SSD to manage with these resample operations.
It is at least 2 or 3 times faster.
