Introduction
This page is to discuss the viability of a Global Scenery Project for FSX (GSP).
The "mission" of the GSP would be:-
- Catalog freeware scenery with Google Maps
- Develop scenery using FSX_KML and Google Earth
- Develop scenery using vector data that may be turned into FSX scenery with custom written tools
Cataloging scenery with Google Maps
Google Maps could be used to provide a web based mapping capabilities for the GSP to show:-
- Scenery released
- Scenery in development
- Scenery needing development
Developing scenery with FSX KML and Google Earth
Because FSX KML and Google Earth makes vector based scenery design easy I think there is the possibility for many users who have no or little experience in scenery design to participate in a global scenery project.
If the efforts of these users could be coordinated then it would be possible to create an large amount of accurate vector based scenery for FSX.
FSX KML could be updated to include automatic upload of completed projects to the GSP website.
For more information on FSX KML see the FSX KML manual
Developing scenery with vector data
Sourcing vector data
Converting vector data into FSX scenery
GSP Subprojects
The GSP would consist of numerous subprojects or "focus areas", for example:-
- Worlds great rivers
