• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I lost one of my Abacus FSDS models from the program when somehow my folder on the model and some 700 part files were lost from my hard disc. The compiled model is still in FS9 but can I use ModelConverterX to decompile back to FSDS format?

Abacus Tech have suggested it but are not sure it will work. I am 85 and the prospect seems difficult, so I would like to know that it can work before I try it.

Responce to PS

If I can export my aircraft model back into FS Design Studio, I will continue to build the model. It already has over a months work done on it; I am retired.

THe current developmental release (posted tnight) does have an FSDS (fsc) format exporter.

Caveat:

I just tried it with an FSX model of mine. I do not believe that MCX can import FS9 models - it didn't work with an aircraft FS9 mdl file of mine.

FIrst impression:

The model does convert into (as expected) generic part names. (part0.fsp; part01, etc....)

Texture assignments do come across...!

Some parts are "grouped" - I believe this has to do with materials, but in general, this can be easily split apart.

Animations do NOT come across (maybe later).

ANIMATED parts come across rotated ... I found I had to rotate the prop parts by 90-degrees in both X and Z directions to get them facing correctly.

IF you have a 700 part model to convert.... good luck.

I think that the main use I'll give it is to convert a few parts at a time to a modelling program, abuse it in, say, AC3D, gmax, etc., then convert the modified part back into FSDS for finishing.

THanks to Arno for doing this.... of course, bribing him with soda, salsa and chips did help a bit.
