20 years ago, FS2002 and FS2004 era, I experimented with some scenery design for my Virtual Airline TCA Alaska to improve our virtual Iditarod support flights.
Wasilla, Skwentna, Finger Lake (a lake with some lodges), Rainy Pass (with the now famous Rainy Pass Lodge), Rohn Tatitna (a cabin in the wood), ghost town Iditarod checkpoint and McGrath airport. Some of these sceneries had Iditarod specific objects like straw bales and seasonal differences, like snow on roofs and hardened water surfaces. Also made the Anchorage starting line, with banners, people and dog sleds, for realism. Only my McGrath alaska scenery was release publicly in Flightsim.com. I definitely got the designing bug then.
I was surprised by the rush I got from designing scenery. I loved getting the feeling for the place I was designing. I couldn't get to Alaska, designing an alaskan scenery was the next best thing.
Unfortunately, when FSX came along I couldn't afford upgrading right away and work life took hold of more time than it should and my designing spree was cut short.
Lately the bug has been awakening again and I am going through tutorials (people offering tutorials these days amaze me) to see if I can still do it. I want to start with Ephrata airport, made famous by the Spielberg movie Always, one of my favorite.
