• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Which Wacom tablet you recommend?

If you do serious illustration work, go get an Intuos. The extra functions on the pen aren't really cutting it (for me at least), but the ergonomics alone (The felt nibs *drool*) are worth it. Wether you want to go larger than size Medium you have to check for yourself. I still have a size Large...

    Texture baking

To iterate on what previous posters have written - there is no need to unwrap the hi-poly when setting up for normals baking. You really just need to unwrap the lo-poly so the engine knows how to organize the render output.

    P3D v1 Ambient Occlusion Settings

https://www.knaldtech.com/ Just leaving this here, might be of interest to some. ps. If you find the contrast in your AO bakes to be lacking, you can always layer and blend multiple copies of the render output in Photoshop ;)

    F-105 Thud is stuck!

For Boolean operations it's usually safer to detach copies of the geometry that you want to work on, then do the actual Boolean op, then clean up the resulting geometry and re-attach it to the main mesh. Like you said, the Boolean tools in max can often be a bit 'unpredictable' and the more...

Part time or full time job

There's people out there not working full time for zero pay?:D On a more serious note: I honestly doubt that a full-time business would work for long. The market is just too small and demanding these days.

    FSX Ambient occlusion question?

Easiest way is to layer copies of your baked AO texture in your favourite image editing software and play with levels, layer opacity and layer modes until you're satisfied with the outcome. Another way would be to tweak parameters in the renderer, that can be a wee bit more time-consuming and...

    FSX mapping in 3ds max?

There's not much to UV maps in the way you puzzle together your UV shells. Really try all the tools AD bought into 3ds and see which returns you the best result (When you apply a checker map material to your mesh, the checkers should be perfectly square and of an even size across the whole...

    UTM to LAT/LONG reprojection issue

Hej Holger, I feared that would be the answer. I feel a little bit more lost now - how can I use the reprojected TIFF I have to do FSX compatible photoscenery and how do I use it to build an airport ground poly in 3ds max? LCsims - thanks for the link, much appreciated!

    UTM to LAT/LONG reprojection issue

Hej all, I'm just dabbling around with the FSX SDK, trying to establish a workflow for developing addon scenery after having been a 'consumer' for the last twelve or so years. Problem is - I'm a bloody newbie when it comes to working with GIS data and bumped into the first show-stopper issue...
