• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Texture file format...

I just wanted to know what format people are using for textures in scenery design. Are you using the newish .dds format? Or are you sticking with the DXT1/3 method? If you use .dds format, what are you using to convert images? imagetool.exe, or the Nvidia plugin? - Martin

    FSDS3 in FS2K2

Actually, it is compatible with FS2002... sort of. You can export as a .X file, which can be loaded into the FS2002 version of makemdl.exe, and then compiled as a .bgl file (you have to provide the lat and long, of course). I didn't use the FS2002 SDK very much, but presumably there is a way...

    Website bandwidth limit

Maybe you need a better plan? I host my website through Yahoo Small Business. The "Web Hosting Starter" plan costs $11.95 per month, and includes 5GB of disk space, and 200GB of bandwidth. I'm not sure what your forum runs on, but it includes PHP and MySQL for scripting/databse support...

    FSDS V3 to EZScenery

I saw a post on another forum where the writer moved the axis of all the parts of his object to 0,0,0. Apparently this helped his problem, and would explain a bit of what was happening, and why it affected some parts, but not others. My export to .X method works fine too. - Martin

    Taxiway lights problem

I actually don't know what I'm doing. I just peruse the forums and copy code snippets and experiment until I get it right. :stirthepo I think you will need an effect, and an effect controller to make your running lights. Don't worry about your exclude problem - that only affects effects...

    Taxiway lights problem

I had a similar question here: http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2281 So basically what I did was I created a BGL file containing 3 blue lights of different darkness, all of which were visible at different distances. So, as I approach the airport, I start to see a hint of...

    PAPI lights with Separation plane

Ah yes, my mistake. Only the BGL lights themselves are offset. In any case, the reference point is not the centerline of the runway, but it is actually in the center of the PAPI lights. I could have created the left and right sides together as one object instead of two, but it was just easier...

    PAPI lights with Separation plane

There seems to be a little confusion here. Maybe there is a better way of doing this, and part of what we do here is improve on each other's work. I'm all in favour of finding better ways to do things. To start with, it is important to remember that there are four seperate objects - one for...

VTCC Chaing Mai, Thailand - Photoreal Exxxtreme Professional Version

I've been updating my old Chiang Mai scenery to FS2004 standards (XML vs. FSDS2). The biggest difference is that I used the custom ground texture for the airport (FS2002 style). Otherwise, I updated all the objects IAW the current SDK, improved the textures and added a lot of detail. I reused...

    Why do ai aircraft.....

From my observations, the AI aircraft will use the same runways that ATC directs you to use. Generally, this is the nearest runway, unless, it is closed in one direction or another, or if it is not connected to a taxiway. In my Bangkok scenery, there is two runways, and both get evenly used...

    PAPI lights with Separation plane

You're right - I only did it this way to keep it easy for me to understand, but I could have used fewer seperation_plane commands. - Martin

    PAPI lights with Separation plane

Hi there, This might be a slightly different type of light than that which the original poster described, but here it goes... A couple weeks ago, I made a custom PAPI-4 light for my runway. In my case, I needed to make a total of 4 different PAPI lights, since my runway has PAPI-4 on each...

    FSDS3 Quirk (carryover from FSDS2)

Hi there, I just tried this and I had no problems with the radius. I think I see what you are talking about though; The radius being the distance from the center of the object to the furthest extent of the point on my traiangle. After I did this, I wondered if it was the bottom part of the...

Effect-based lighting vs. BGL light for taxiways... which do you use?

Hi all, I've been creating custom lighting for my airport taxiways and runways. At first, I planted my lights using effect files, since I could control the brightness, and I liked the way they seemed to fade with distance. Of course, I ran ito the probelm of having placed too many effect...
