• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    FlightGear Scenery

I've put some of the custom FlightGear terrain up for download on avsim.net (under FlightGear -> Scenery) if anyone here is interested. If so, any comments on how to make these better would help, even if those improvements are out of my control (a generation issue vs. a data issue).

There have been some European sceneries generated with OSM data. We're not importing the OSM data over the vmap0 terrain data we use already, though, because even though vmap0 data is not very precise, it's consistent over the whole world. There's a very good scenery of the Netherlands using...

    FlightGear is a no-go

Actually FlightGear has some features which are more advanced than at least FS2004 and probably FSX (never used it), but some features are on par with earlier versions such as FS00-02 (but are slowly getting better).

FlightGear uses git to update the source code - shouldn't be hard, just search for 'FlightGear repository'. The terrain files are all .btg (hope I got that extension right) meshes. The engine is actually capable of doing some amazing things...

I'm writing something geared toward existing flight sim scenery developers in order to see if anyone is interested in creating for FlightGear. This is the first step, please let me know what you think should be improved as I'm eventually planning on adding this to the FlightGear wiki. ----...

    Understanding Airports

The way airport generation works isn't the same as you will find in Flight Simulator. Last FS I used was 2004, but you could apparently edit or add an airport in AFCAD, put the airport file in the proper folder and launch at that airport. In FlightGear, the airports are actually "cut into"...

    Slew mode?

You can set a startup lat-lon. If you're using the launcher, click 'advanced' and it should be an option; if you're a command-liner, just simply try: fgfs --lat:50 --lon=-10 and that should work (if you want to start up in the Celtic Sea, of course !! )

    FlightGear is a no-go

The scenery for Vancouver Island is not very good at the moment. I am working on a solution, but not for Courtenay - but I'll try and fix that as well. There is good scenery for most of the United States part of the Pacific Northwest. It's not perfect, and right now it's an add-on, but it's...
