• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS [GUIDE] How to create custom aerial scenery

Hi there, TIN (= photogrammetry) is a combination of high-resolution mesh and multi-viewpoint aerial imagery, which gets streamed as complete tiles into the sim. As far as I know, in a photogrammetry area there is no separate ground orthoimagery anymore, and thus I don't see any way to...

MSFS [GUIDE] How to create custom aerial scenery

Hi there, typically, we use official resellers like L3Harris -- https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/Data-Imagery -- or Aerometrex, etc. They have online catalogues that make searching for imagery of specific locations pretty straightforward. Note that most standard commercial licenses assume...

MSFS Move complete scenery by a few meters

You can group scenery objects and translate or rotate the group as a whole. Cheers, Holger

MSFS BGL locations of usable object models

... with the caveat that the top half dozen or so entries on that list depend on a user actually having the Japan and/ or US World Updates installed. Cheers, Holger

Visual catalog of 3D Objects ?

Hi guys, you can load the stock library bgl files into MCX and let it create an html based list/report with previews ("Object report"). Some objects don't render correctly but most show perfectly fine. You can then either scroll through that catalog in your web browser or directly view the .jpg...

Hi Christian, sorry, that wasn't in a public thread although they may have repeated it publicly somewhere else on https://forums.flightsimulator.com/. Cheers, Holger

MSFS Exclude Default Simobjects (Wind Turbine)

Hi Christian, have you tried just using the "excludeSimObjects" tag in an exclusion rectangle? According to others, some types of objects don't get removed by using the default "excludeAllObjects" checkbox, rather only by using their specific tag. It's possible though that wind turbines can't...

How to exclude stock roads and lights?

Hi Andrea, unfortunately not. Both light orbs and powerline towers have been acknowledged by Asobo as requiring custom exclude options but no sign of that in SDK updates yet. Cheers, Holger

How to exclude stock roads and lights?

Hi Stinger, the vector roads will disappear if you place a polygon with a surface material over them. There are a few in the stock list that are near-transparent and without an obtrusive pattern so experiment and pick the one that works for you. As Claviateur states, excluding the hovering...

Landmark POI vs huge flying spheres

Hi there, in DevMode, under Options > POI, the checkmark triggers those spheres, presumably for debugging meaning being able to spot them from far away. Cheers, Holger

Scenery no longer loading , objects listed as UNKNOWN

Another possible cause is if you've placed a compiled package in your Community folder and then try to work on the package source from another folder. Cheers, Holger

    Roads missing

Hi there, the Faro and Birmingham screenshots look like "landclass" areas where the orthoimagery is too poor or cloud-covered and thus locally replaced by generic tiles plus vector roads. Those have standard road textures whereas, in the "normal" Bing coverage areas, the sim just places those...

    P3D v4 Textures bleeding through

Hi Martin, the "peeling" issue usually has to do with the complexity of the local landclass polygons, for example if one polygon wraps around another on three sides or several complex polys overlap. Usually, splitting those polys into simpler shapes will get rid of the issue. Cheers, Holger

Roads with vector autogen doesnt show

Hi there, vector autogen only displays if the underlying landclass also has active autogen. Thus, if the road vectors cross an area without any autogen buildings or vegetation (desert, shrubland, etc.) then there won't be any roadside signs or lights either. Perhaps that's your issue? Cheers...

P3D v4 Low res photoscenery on small distances

Hi Matthias, just to confirm, LOD13 is the minimum required to avoid local land or waterclass from taking over near the user aircraft. Moreover, for water PR I've found that a minimum compression quality value of 90 is required, meaning actually higher than the typical 85 for land PR. That's...

MSFS -Everything you know about upcoming Flight Sim from Microsoft-

Hi guys, I don't want to drag this side-discussion on but Dick's statement is incorrect, at least for FSX/P3D. It's entirely possible to create ground texture tiles with higher resolution; I've attached an image comparing a standard 1024px with a 2048px using the same source. While the lossy...

    WGS84 imagery stretched

Hi guys, most source imagery is supplied in a metric projection, like UTM, with the pixels having the same dimension in meters, like 1m or 0.5m. Once this gets converted to Geographic/WGS84 the units change to decimal degrees and the X and Y dimensions are no longer the same because the...

    WGS84 imagery stretched

Hi there, the trick is to ensure that the pixel dimensions are equal in the X and Y directions. Global Mapper offers this option when exporting imagery ("always generate square pixels") and other GIS packages should do so as well. The downside is that this increases your working image size by a...
