• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Rocky textures in mountain slopes

Hi, Actually, it is possible to make some changes to lclookup.bgl but changing it for the specific needs of one scenery would probably make a mess of other sceneries. Since I am still working on an improved lclookup.bgl, I am interested in hearing what you would like to change. If this is...

    Geodetic Question

Hi, As has been said : the short answer is no. If you're just interested in converting geo data from the real world to FS with very good accuracy and the least work... Use tools that know more on coordinates transforms than you could learn in all your part time : GDAL knows how to do that...

    FSX Terrain patch

Hi, Thank you for the kind words. I am still working on improving that. Especially regarding detailed comments from Holger. However, I cannot tell for sure when I will upgrade this work. I am wondering too what to do if lclookup.bgl is improved in the apparently upcoming FSX patch. May be I...

Shooting stars on all airways-load time?

Happy new year ! You can set the range from which the particle will be emitted as well as the direction in the emitter section of the effects file. Just make sure that the particle will be emitted above the airplane for realism's sake by using a strictly positive Y range. I think attaching the...

Shooting stars on all airways-load time?

Hi, I am making a scenery with ~5000 objects or effects resulting in a xml file size of about 2MB. It loads very quickly and does not seem to impact framerate (objects are spread all over France). However, why not attaching the effect to the aircraft ? Cheers, Arnaud

How do I get an effect to show in a range of lats and longs?

Hi Holger, Y is normally the vertical axis. Not sure about X and Z. All these certainly depend on bank/shear/heading parameters when locating the effect in the sceneryobject tag. Cheers, Arnaud

    FSX Terrain patch

Hi Scott, Try and have a look at the Excel link previously given for a complete list of LC remappings. I am currently testing a few modifications of these in order to reduce the pervasing problem of irrealistic grassy AND sandy airport skirtings. These are due to two neighbour landclasses...

    TCalcX_002

Hi Dick, The SDK contains a redistributable version of SimConnect here : C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib Maybe you should include it with your tool and make people reinstall it after the .Net framework to be...

    Edit FSX default terrain textures

Buon giorno ! No parla italiano... But I can usually understand what you're saying on your blog. So, I supposed someone else could... Obviously avsim is more simple for english-speaking people to look at. May I reuse your work in a future version of my landclass, since we overlap a bit ? That...

    Personalised Landclass Textures in FSX

Hi, I can confirm textures listed in terrain.cfg MUST be in scenery/world/texture. Cheers, Arnaud

    Personalised Landclass Textures in FSX

Hi, In my tests, polygons using landclasses never showed something else than the textures in scenery/world/texture. Even when located beside a landclass BGL using specific textures. Arnaud

    FSX Terrain patch

Hi, Mountains are uniformly white in default FSX. Rather than reloading FSX scenery a hundreds of times in order to take comparative screenshots, I encourage everyone to try it for their region and see what is improved (or not), then take a look at the Excel document to see the details of...

    FSX Terrain patch

Hi Dick, I am glad someone eventually felt interested in it :) Here is an Excel sheet with a synthetic view of lclookup.bgl and the proposed changes (in red). It should help people test the changes and understand what's possible by changing lclookup.bgl...

    Edit FSX default terrain textures

Hi, This LC/Texture mapping is hardcoded into lclookup.bgl. Although I suggest to make some changes to it in the "FSX Terrain patch" post, I do believe that the problem with the way Italy is rendered should be addressed by altering the FSX regions definition. Francesco Mandelli (see...

    FSX Terrain patch

Hi all, Thanks to informations from Holger Sandmann and Luis Feliz-Tirado, I managed to decode most of lclookup.bgl. I am proposing to establish a new standard for it so as to fix a few annoying things with the way FSX displays terrain. - Featureless white on mountains changed for snow/rock...
