• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Site maintenance ahead

Uh-oh :( I wish you better luck next time, guys! By the way, totally off-topic, but have you thought about whether to expand fsdeveloper next year to include MSTS2? Since both are built on the same ACES architecture / "engine", I can see where having one site would be very beneficial from a...

    Best program?

Ah - that is news to me. Thanks for pointing that out, Bill. - regards, jed

    Best program?

3DSMax is great & is what the pros use, but expensive for non-professionals. gmax is good too, but as it is now an unsupported product, it will become obsolete over time. Good today, but for MSTS2-WOR or FSXI? I'm not so sure. Interestingly, Mike Porter in his blog comments of October 3rd...

    FS Developers Association

I see two areas of potential concern Equitably distributing costs amongst the developers who participate Ensuring the quality of the code being signed The latter is a bigger concern, IMO. Let's say I'm a useless developer who's gauges and DLL's cause havok on any machine that they are...

    mention of FS11 SDK

Agreed, and frankly I doubt if long lists are of much use to ACES by themselves. They are more useful if relative importance is included. One way to do this is as follows: Allow a defined timeperiod for suggestion submissions (e.g. one month) At the end of the suggestion period, make a...

    mention of FS11 SDK

Oh, and in reply to Felix w.r.t.: "Lavatory dumps, I say, what kind of "flight simulator" can it be without the possibility of "blue ice" ??" Surely that is already in FSX, sir? Simply repaint the flour bomb blue and away you go, - so to speak....:D - Jed

    mention of FS11 SDK

Two other comments w.r.t. this idea of no backwards compatability in FSXI: Comment 1: Personally, I hope that all developers/development companies will - gently - start educating their users / customers that the products they have today will not be compatible in FSXI. For example, each...

    mention of FS11 SDK

My 2C: I have no problem with ACES dropping all backwards compatability with pre FSXI code. I'd much rather that they spend their time building new and improved functionality that is optimized for DX10 than trying to shoe-horn ancient code into the sim that will likely hobble it for years to...

Object placement tool not loading previously defined missions/scenery

I find that I end up editing the XML file & reloading. I agree it would make scenery creation a lot easier & faster if it were fixed!

How to get scenery to show up with OPT?

And don't forget that the OPT will not export any mission-related objects or functionality into an XML file if you save as Scenery (you'll get an empty XML file). Scenery is exactly that - static scenery objects, such as buildings or static aircraft. That does not mean that you can't have...
