• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Varying top speed (Mach) with altitude

Sorry; I thought ESP was for FSX. Anyhoo, I was thinking of the F-14, which at sea level was good for about Mach 1.2, but which could do Mach 2.2 at FL260. I'm assuming this was due to changes in both thrust and drag, but I don't know which. Are you saying that can't be programmed?

Varying top speed (Mach) with altitude

Working in an FS9 .air file, and I would like to work with parameters that permit a fighter to reach higher Mach numbers at altitude than at sea level. The model, as I have obtained it, does not seem to vary much (if at all) in its current state. I get pretty much the same speeds at SL as at...

    LOD Questions

So the transition from one LOD to the next is based upon the number of pixels the object uses? I guess the item gets larger till it reaches, say 100 pixels, then it switches to a version which is expected to use more, maybe 110 pixels. And if you zoom back out, then below 110 it switches back...

    LOD Questions

I understand the concept of LODs, but I have some specific questions about implementation. Are there a fixed number of LODs, or can an object have any number of levels? How are the crossover points determined? Is it done strictly based on range, or is visual zoom taken into account? Are...

AFX Airport not showing. Any clues?

Okay, I have this working, but solving it only raised more questions. The flatten is helpful, but not essential to display the airport. Getting the airport to display required a new airport header, but it wasn't the elevation that did the trick: it was the position. I compiled a new bgl...

AFX Airport not showing. Any clues?

Great! Sounds like we're really getting somewhere. It amazes me that so many folks have been able to tap into these APIs. Such niche communities could not flourish before the web. So I guess part of the problem is that I have to flatten the corrected terrain location. Recommended tool for...

AFX Airport not showing. Any clues?

Jeez, I hope I'm not in over my head. Okay, so by looking around, it seems I can/should decompile bgl and extract the airport header. Then, I recompile it with a higher elevation, presumably higher than the terrain it's on. That terrain's contoured, so I'd benefit from "flattening" it -- how's...

AFX Airport not showing. Any clues?

Because I'm using UT and FSG, the default KCDK airport is underwater. The correct island is there, with some autogen on it, and slightly tontoured terrain. I extracted the stock airport in AFX and dragged it to the correct location, maybe 200-300yds from "stock" centerline. The airport shows...

    Looking for a Scenery Primer

Can anyone direct me to a site/document/post with explanations of the scenery models in FSX and FS2004, and preferably FS2002 as well?

    KJFK Canarsie Approach Lights

I'm new at this, but I really want to try something. I have always wanted to model the sequential flashing lights seen in this video. The problem is that FSX doesn't even seem to attempt these lights, and the ones I've seen in earlier versions of FS are terrible -- certainly of no use for...
