• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Autogen Annotator

So linking across from my other thread, this is really a low-level terrain editing tool. What I was hoping to do was add trees to a scenery created using ADE where the landclass used (which appears to be the most suitable of all the ones available) leaves gaps in the vegetation ground cover...

    SDK Autogen Footprints

:D Yup, I got it working OK but now I just need to find out how to use it. Seasonal trees are exactly what I'm looking for but I need to find out how to get down to my airport scenery. I've read the user guides but they assume that you know how to do that and start from the point where you're...

    Autogen Annotator

Thanks George. Everything I've read on how to use it refers to 'modifying the texture' but nothing tells you what texture (specifically in respect of the scenery you want to modify) or how to get it into the viewport. Unfortunately without such vital info it's pretty unusable. Must be silly...

    Autogen Annotator

Whoever writes the documentaton for MS talks a different version of English to me like it's been translated from Martian and lost most of its actual meaning along the way. So here's just a simple question. Can I use the Autogen Annotator to add footprints of autogen to a custom scenery. Yes or...

    SDK Autogen Footprints

Does anyone know why I'm still getting an XML error when trying to start the annotator? I've reinstalled the SDK (in a different folder), I've edited the dll.xml file to what I think it should be (maybe someone can paste up theirs to show one that works) and apps like BglComp work fine (so I...

    SDK Autogen Footprints

I'm still searching for a way to add seasonal trees to FSX scenery and I wondered if adding footprints of autogen trees would do the trick. Unfortunately, when I try to run the annotation tool I get an error. I obviously need to reinstall the SDK or something but to save me time, can anyone tell...

    Sounds in FS9 Sceneries

Bill, I think you're right. I've been sniffing round this problem for a little while now. I think that there are several 'hard coded' sounds in FS9 and each one has been given a number. You can call those up in your effects file (eg the cackling hens in the barnstormer barn) but you can't add...

    Sounds in FS9 Sceneries

I've been creating two versions of the same scenery, one for FSX and the other for FS9. The FSX version is all singing all dancing with animations and sounds but try as I may I just cannot get background sounds into the FS9 version. I've got the wav files in the main sound folder, the fx files...

    FSX SP2 Transparency Problem

Yup, all of the trees here were created as I originally described. Only the ones in the distance are default. As you can see they work perfectly in FSX SP1 (I deinstalled Acceleration/SP2 because it has too many issues and problems I think).

    FSX SP2 Transparency Problem

Absolutely. SP2 I think was a disaster. I made cruciform trees with alpha transparency and seasonal textures. I compiled them via FS9 MakeMdl, used MdlTweaker to remove shadow, normalise and add seasonal textures and added them into a library to get GUIDS. They worked perfectly and looked great...

    FSX SP2 Transparency Problem

It's the old seasonal trees thing again. My scenery has custom Gmax trees compiled with FS9 MakeMdl and with bgls tweaked. They work fine in FSX SP1 but show the transparency problem in SP2. Has anyone solved this yet? Is a solution possible even? I see that Lennart posted a reply a year ago...

    Reflections

Er... where exactly are all these boxes that you tick .... I've found the reflection box and with that alone I still just get transparency. This has totally eluded me for several days now and I'd more or less given up on it.

    No Shade on Gmax Objects

Just looked back in after a couple of days - thanks Arno. I don't think I can use the FSX Gamepack as I'm working with trees with seasonal textures. All my earlier research indicated that for seasonal textures I had to use FS9 MakeMdl objects, right?

    Scenery Sounds

I notice that there are some very nice sounds for dogs, cuckoos etc in the main sound folder. Can anyone tell me how to get those to work in a scenery? Thanks OK - I've already worked it out. Effects

    No Shade on Gmax Objects

OK - don't worry After checking back over about 10 forum pages I found some stuff about tweaking the normals. I use MdlTweak so I found the relevant bits in the vertices and clicked the button. I've now got 'all shaded' textures so I've now got to experiment a bit and get 'all lit'...

    No Shade on Gmax Objects

I just spotted a comment in the thread about trees glowing at night on how the trees are 'asm modified' to avoid shade on the side away from the sun. I've made some Gmax trees too and I've been trying to find out all over how to do that without success. I'd almost given up until I saw that...
