• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3D gauges

Hi, I wanted to know if there is a way of making, for example, a 3D working compass gauge, or other instrument like attitude indicators in FS2004 SDK?
It's because of a very special VC that is a sphere made from hexagons and pentagons in which the pilot is standing.

Yes.

In principle, you model the 3D gauge as parts - the housing, moving parts, etc., and animate the moving parts appropriately. You *may* have to create specific XML coding for a given part.

In simplest form, I've created a float fuel indicator, animated to use the appropriate fuel indicator tag from the SDK, and with the corresponding key frame animations. Other gauges/etc may require other coding.

Well, I'm using the FS2004 SDK, so the compass tag I must use can be the same as the XML compass gauge? Or I have to go looking for something else, because I do not know where to find all the <sim> <variables> and <event_id>...

The variables, etc are in the FS2004 SDK.

Look at the makemdl SDK for the "standard" variables. If you have to make custom variables, then the events , etc are listed in the Panel and Gauges SDKs.

As I wrote the reply yesterday, I had just come from the FFDS forums and had seen you browsing there.

Search FSdeveloper.com and the FFDS forums because I KNOW that someone already developed, and (I believe) shared the code for a 3D compass gauge.

Hi
Attached is my old makemdlxml file it has heaps of custom code and odds and sods collected over the years.Anything with a <rotation></rotation> tag is NON keyframed animation.Feel free to poke around and use whatever you find useful.
Dont copy this file to your makemdl folder, keep it separate and cut and past the code as you need into your orig makemdl file (makes it easier to keep track and test)
Note that some of the code wont work as they where used in conjunction with hidden 2d controller code
Cheers
Wozza
