• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3DS MAX FlightSimX Textures

Using 3DS MAX I've been attempting to create a glass texture for my aircraft's windshield. The Opacity setting in the Blinn Basic Parameters section seems to have no effect when viewed in FSX. Is there some trick to making a part transparent?

I also noticed there's a special FlightSimX texture in MAX. It looks pretty powerful & equally confusing. Has anyone had any success using it & perhaps mind sharing some basic how-to information?

Hello Nodd,

If you'll scroll down FlightSimX material in Material Editor you'll find there Framebuffer Blend frame and two buttons in it "Set Default Opaque" and "Set Default Transparent" press second and opacity will work...

But who will tell me how to make a hole in material with alpha-chanel in FSX ? It works fine if I do only plane but if the plane in front of other detail with alpha... interesting things having place...:banghead:

Thanks Andrey. Its much easier to fly with transparent glass in my windshield :p

You are welcome :) I do belive we need to do something like Wiki about FlightSimX material... but let's wait for SDK, I saw it was promised next week... will check it out.

Hey Andrey - Have you tried messing around with the Z Test Alpha setting? It's just a hunch, but I'm guessing it might allow you to set a Z-bias value for the texture - which would be a cure for the dreaded drawing order problems that were so common in FS9.
