• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

A330 development

Hey guys,

I used to play flight sim a lot when I was younger and have wanted to get into it again as late for practise.

I've tried a couple of a330 simulations and in my opinion they are horrendous, how can they charge people that kind of cash and proclaim that it is an accurate simulation of the aircraft, it couldn't be further off!

Failing everyone else's product I'd like to start a product to sell to the flight sim community however the only thing I can do (and not very well haha) is provide information on the systems, differences between 330's and how they fly. I would be looking for programmers, painters etc to get on board to create a sim that will not only be fun for entertainment purposes but also a trainer for professionals in the field.

If you're interested please send me a PM and we can go from there

Unless you're willing to at least do the modeling, textures or systems programming, expect to never find any people willing to join in. Also, a training quality A330 simulation takes years to develop.

Also, Aerosoft is doing an A330 next year so is it really a wise decision to start one now? It will take years to code the systems.

If you have not done any developing, you are probably about to discover that, with a few exceptions, the products you are referring to are inexpensive (in terms of man-hours to produce)

Bjoern is quite right, however. The work is in all the things you outline, so it is pretty unlikely that much will happen unless you are willing to get your hands dirty with pixel-dust.

I wonder, if you have specialist systems knowledge of the a/c whether it might be worth seeking out one of the better current ones and seeing if you can work with them.

If they already have some of the elements, it is easier to refine than to start again.

Talented systems programmers / developers rarely have any 'spare' time has been my observation.

As a guide to aircraft ststems development time, arguably the best at school now is PMDG in terms of completeness.

Take a look at how long the 737NG took.

And that was with all the experience of making a 747 before it!

Trust me, I would too rather join on a company that has already started... but I have already messaged a company I'd like to work with but to no avail.

Fellas, I understand the amount of work needed and when I posted I did mean a long term proper project - of course I am willing to get my hands dirty and do as much work/learn to do.

I'm far from having any specialist knowledge haha that thing is a nightmare! I fly the 330 so I have a little feel for how it flies. Obviously the main advantage is that I have all the manuals we could ever need and that we can make sure the systems are modelled on par with the real thing

That would qualify as specialist knowledge. Good luck. May still be worth partnering with one of the other existing projects .. depending on what level they are going to.

Try to consult BBS about their WIP A330.

Also, every rendition of an aircraft - as realistic as it may be perceived - is just an approximation within the framework offered by MSFS.

If you want something for training, buy some level D time.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I do have to agree that this is not a feasible project.

While the situation with A330s at this time is somewhat not at all good, there are several projects that show some promise within a couple years, all based on A320s with several years headstart.

For a project of the proposed magnitude (a study sim), you would need to invest a lot of money - you would need people to work on it full time, it is unattainable otherwise - and a good programmer is not cheap, even if he does do what he likes. Likewise you would need a good modeller, texture artists etc. - to compete with payware products, the production costs are going to be up there.

So, suppose you could do that - you will ge to market no sooner than in a couple of years, you will have a fair bit of competition from estabilished names, not really a good thing for an unknown company. Very risky from a commercial standpoint.

Then there is a factor in choice of simulator... FSX is OK so far, but who knows what will happen in a couple of years. For P3D v2, hardly anybody knows how will it turn out, especially in regards to legal implications. And as for X-Plane... there are not many guys that do tubeliners in XPL... it is, so far, basically an uncharted teritorry - meaning you would not only have to figure out the A330, you would also have to figure out X-Plane...
