• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I place a fire over an old arplane i my scenery. How can I adjust this so it fires up at a certain time of day and for how long?

Hi Bob:

Effect visibility Parameters would be a way to do this.

Where and how you add those Fx Parameters depends on how you "placed" and "call" the Fx file(s).

You need to tell us more about this scenario.

A difference in method may involve whether the Fx was placed as a object attached to a 3D model versus a stand-alone Fx w/ controller Fx.

If the Fx was placed as object attached to a 3D model, was that 3D model compiled as a SimObject ?

I placed medium forest fire fx where an old plane is. So it is a stand alone fire not attached to an object. try to edit this effect in ADE I cannot find any parameters to adjust the time of day to show. I think, if I assume right, this can be done ONLY if I had attached this fire to an object... when I placed that object. BTW I think that object is only in the photoreal. Rats. I will double check.

And I can't seem to find my fire effect in MCX in order to adjust time of day...

It is true that ADE did not go the extra distance to insert control parameters for Fx into its GUI.

But that can be edited into a Fx controller file fairly easily.

I'll dig up some of my old threads / posts on Fx to refresh my memory on this, and will post again on this a bit later today.

You can "call" a controller FX file from a standard BGLComp XML 'placement' BGL file.

That controller Fx file then "calls" the actual basic Fx file for the Forest Fire.

Control 'parameters' are coded into the controller Fx file; it is all a type of text, and I'm not so sure it it could be regarded as "XML".

FYI: Richard Ludowise (aka "rhumbaflappy"; "Dick") innovated an "all-in-one" Fx file with both Controller and Basic Fx code:

Thanx Gary. I found that the Canberra is an object, not just photoreal. I now attached some fire to it. parameters I used day, hod= 13,14 I think. Trying to get it to shwo aorund 14:00 hrs. We shall see. Thanx again.. will report back later.

AH HA! nailed it... sort of... fire shows at night ~ now need to figure out how to make it show during the day instead. hahaha Haven't done this in a good while.

Gary- I guess ADE can set the time that effects show... called parameters. but I am not sure what to type in. btw- got my fire to show in day time. using mcx. Now to figure ut how to set the specific times using mcx or ade.

Hi Bob:

All my original Fx work was based on FSX, so time for me to RTFM as well, when porting to P3D.

I need to refresh my memory on P3D Fx (there are some P3D 'gotchas'); in the mean time you may wish to review these threads:
