• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Airport buildings

Hello Arno,

I would like to test the capabilities of scenproc for creating autogenerated airport buildings.
If you look into FSX, ACES obviously used a similar tool to create (more or less) realistic airport buildings (mostly terminals) using the real building's footprints. The results are those "autogenerated" objects you can find an most default airports.
I think it should be possible to do this with scenproc, shouldn't it? You take a footprint of airport buildings from OSM and process it to create a generic building matching the shape of the real building.

Now, to achieve this, I would have to specify the typical generic airport building look with flat roofs, a certain height of the building and of course textures.
Is there a way of defining this using GUIDs in scenproc?

Hi Thorsten,

At the moment that is not possible.

scenProc can only make autogen buildings are the moment. And the polygonal autogen buildings can't be used with just any footprint. They will always have a hole in the middle.

I am experimenting with letting scenProc make MDL objects from footprints, that should allow this kind of buildings as well.

Many of the buildings at default airports are also XML generated generic buildings. But these are rectangular, not just any shape.

Thanks for the feedback, I expected that, although I was still hoping there'd be a way. I guess it shouldn't bother me much as those generic buildings are not really good looking anyway. I should probably just use the default objects there.

MDL objects from footprints would be awesome, especially with texture tweaking capabilities.

So glad FS11 died, so many more tools created for FSX/P3D/ESP now
