• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX animated jetways

can i create animated jetways with FSDS for FSX? If so, how would I go about doing that?

FSDS does not support IK/Bones, so while you can view the Animated jetway tutorial for the principles, be aware that you have to key frame all animation.

So, the problem is one of the tediousness of animatiing each component, instead of forming a system of bones.

So Felix.... (and thanks for the reply)...

Guessing gmax should be used for this? Where is the tutorial, btw, if I may ask...

TRAITOR! BLASPHEMER!!! To be a True Luddite you MUST devote countless hours to fastidious manipulation of each part and its animation....!!!

But yes, gmax would make this animation easier.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Hey, Felix, I couldn't 3d design my way out of a 2D world.. LOL I have tried 3d design..and I just flat out suck! I beg people to do it for me. LOL But I try to get them any info they need to learn how to do these things. Cause I just don't have the time to learn another thing myself.

I live for the airport design part of this life. People that are much better than I can do the 3D work. I just sit back in awe of what you all do.

Animating with key frames is easy and fun, I have made some very complicated objects with key frame animation. And although I have never tried to make a jet way to me it looks easy enough to make. The problem is with FSX how to control it once its made?

If you've followed the tutorial precisely, the rest is automatic. FSX will activate the animation whenever an properly configured a/c is parked correctly at the gate...

Yes, in FSX to have the jetway move automatically you will have to use the IK and bone animations. With keyframes you can also make a jetway, but there would be no way to control it. So GMax would probably be a much better choice here.

well, gmax was crap on my system. Was a couple years ago as well. no clue why, but everything in the help menu crashes the program. So I got 3dsmax from a friend of mine. Funny, the 3500.00 software runs fine...but the free software doesn't. Hmmmm

Anyways, after trying to use that tutorial, which is a joke unless you already have everything READY to put in the bones... And since I don't....pretty useless.....

I have come to the conclusion that those of you that model...you are amazing. Cause just suck using this software. Period. I look at models made by some of you..and it just aint gonna happen. I tried to make a simple box. On that, a column. On that, another box. I then wanted to put in the bones, and make them move. even if just IN the program. I made the bones. But that tutorial assumes you know a hell of a lot because I didn't follow anything he said on 90% of it. So, I was just done. :(

Sucks, because I am one of those people that usually pick things up very quickly and very well. This is one of those things that apparently, I'm not picking up.

Maybe I could find a class locally for free... I learn by someone showing me. I need them to say, nope, yes, yes, go here, there ya go, nope, don't want that one...ok., there ya go...Once I see it done, and then they watch me do it, correcting any mistakes AS I go, then I got it. But, unless one of you amazing modelers want to VNC and Team speak with me to teach me this stuff...you will have to make it, and I will ask to use it. LOL

Ok.... curious....I read the wiki about how to add the fsx gamepack to gmax...but how do I add it to 3ds Max???

I am guessing I just make the gamepacks folder in the 3ds Max 2009 folder. I did that..copied the fsx_gmaxgamepack folder into it and then it says to copy the gmax shortcut to the desktop and ONLY use it to open gmax. Well, I don't use gmax... So, is there a shortcut anywhere for launching this all in 3ds max???

HELP!?!?!?!?!!

- Greg

AHH WELL... tons of errors when it was loading..then finally says the gamepack isn't for this version of the software (3ds max..) Great...

every time I think, what the hell, I will try AGAIN....something else goes severely wrong.

But, will I give up...now it is becoming a mission!!!!!
