• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello all

Got a question to ask. I was looking through the forum and came across a post (http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1111&highlight=windsock) regarding animation of a windsock which was animated and also rotated to wind. I know that it has been a limitation of fs to create this but this post seems to show that it can be done and after reading it....im very interested to trying this for my windsock yet very confused also. If anyone has been able to do this and can explain how to it would be much appriciated.

If i remember correctly, it was Horst18519 that created the post so if you read this and can help...i would appriciate it

Thanks
Dave

ablitos-. I have not tried this yet, but in placing a windsock that acts like this so it reacts to the wind correctly has to do with proper placement.

It may be you've done everything right so far. Pacing a windsock or flag, there has to be two objects in the immediate scenery. So.... if there aren't two objects there that react to the wind then you must place two windsocks on top of each other at the location of your choice. Also- get the wind direction at the time of placement.

In slew mode I would hit the space bar to point myself to north, then I would place my windsock with a heading that matches the wind direction and place a second windsock right on top of the first one... unless you plan to place a flag somewhere in the same scenery as well.

I have done this and found my flags and windsocks conform to wind direction. The question is... will this work with a windsock that moves as well? Good question, worth a try. Then tell me how you made a windsock to move in the wind. :) Bob

Hi Dave,

You might want to check out this thread. In it I posted a fully animated windsock MDL that I worked on together with Jorg and Jon.

I used a bit of ASM code tweaking to get it responding correctly to the wind direction and wind speed. So to do that to your windsock as well, some tweaking is probably the fastest way.

Hi Dave,

I also put the windsock in the download-section because it is not so easy to find in the long thread:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/local_links.php?catid=5

Hope that helps

Joerg

I have moderated the entry in the download section now, so it should appear correct now.
