• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

animation smoothness

Hi
why do I get stair like, choppy etc. animations? In x-plane it's smooth but not with gltf.
Thanks

You would need to attach a zipped .blend file that shows the problem, otherwise it just wastes time.

In MSFS itself?

MSFS is very ruthless in cutting down animation frame rates with distance. You don't have to move very far away from an animated item for it to become very jerky with the frame rate drop.

You could add a large invisible box underneath your item to fool it into thinking it's larger to delay the frame rate drop, but you don't want to go too mad with it as animation works the CPU.

And I think the max frame rate for animations is 18 fps in the sim so you'll never get anything super smooth.

Yes in MSFS. I've set blender to linear animation but still the same. My var goes from 0 to 1 with 0.1 steps.
Thanks

<UseTemplate Name="ASOBO_GT_Anim">
<ANIM_CODE>(L:VARIABLE_NAME, Percent) 100 *</ANIM_CODE>
<ANIM_NAME>raiseArm</ANIM_NAME>
<ANIM_LENGTH>70</ANIM_LENGTH>
<!-- Calculate animation speed based on variable value -->
<ANIM_SPEED>(L:VARIABLE_NAME, Percent) 0.1 *</ANIM_SPEED>
</UseTemplate>

Yes, you have constrained your animation to the counter, interesting way to control it btw. I'd try working with scalar controls like ANIM_BIAS. You could also try linking that "raise arm" mesh to whatever it is supposed to follow, that is how I animate a pilot model to work stick and pedals. I first animate the pilot mesh at Mixamo to get some random ambient motion, then I pose it, unlink the legs and arms and parent those to the controls, works great.
