• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

bgl - export coastline, landclass, mesh?

Is it possible to decompile bgls to gather coastline, landclass and mesh data, much like a custom TMFViewer that can parse the bgls and display the (flattened) data in 2D?

I have no problems parsing NavData and exporting them into XML and plotting it on a static bitmap, but it would be so much nicer to work with live data for a moving map project.

Thank you!

Hi,

For FS9 yes (except for mesh data). For FSX I do not know if that is possible.

Kind Regards,

Luis

Hi Folks

N99 -
If it's just to draw the items,
rather than be able to export/edit/reimport,
it might be possible using the xml code in fs9gps.cab.

Thank you for the replies. So, I understand it's not really possible to just view and display data a la TMFViewer/make your own TMFViewer? I just wonder how FS9 moving map projects and flight planners managed to export the various data?

For example FlightSim Commander and FS FlightKeeper are able to read and parse (FS9) bgls for a basic 2D vector rendering of for example water, terrain surfaces and airspace. Might it be possible to export, for example, the GPS terrain/airspace features from the default Garmin from FSX? I'll try to see what I can do with the fs9gps.cab. Thanks for the hint.

Thank you!
