• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Folks

Arno -
Please explain what was incorrect about the text you'd removed -
For FSX, the replacement tool is called [[bglcomp]] (bglcomp.exe)

That was a valid disambiguation. :D

Maybe it could be worded more appropriately,
but the info was relevant for users who didn't know any better.

Hi Paul,

No it is not really valid. For FS2004 part of the old BGLC code was already moved to BGLComp. The other part went to MakeMDL (and now XtoMDL).

But I removed the text because it is not a good idea to suggest the compilers are similar. That is what a lot of people think and causes more confusion than it solves.

If you look at the FS2000 BGLC then you can say that BGLComp is partly a replacement. But not when comparing with the FS2004 BGLC_9.

Hi Folks

Arno -
BGLC for 2002
BGLComp for 2004
BGLComp for FSX

It's not whether fs9 had BGLComp,
or that it was the immediate successor to BGLC.

Users are not, or only tangentially interested,
in the history of MS compilers for FS. :D

What current users want to know is -
What is the equivalent tool now ! :D

Please re-edit the article -
You'll need to remove the other FSX text from there.

You'll also need to rework the content at - BGL

EDIT
Smiley'd after browser overload.

Hi Paul,

It seems the BGL article is also not very accurate indeed. We need to look at that (I did not write that part myself btw).

For the compilers, I want to prevent confusing between BGLC_9 and BGLComp for FS2004. They are completely different and users often confuse them. Both are for FS2004 but they are not equivalent at all. That is why I think there should be no reference from one to the other.

If the BGL section explains the differences correctly, then their should not be a problem I guess.

Yep I updated the BGL portion but I admit my knowledge is very FSX biased and probably will contain errors....guess that is the beauty of wikis eh?

Hi Folks

Arno -
Cheers.

How about an overview doc which links to specific versions.
That'll hopefully make things clearer.

Timmo -
No worries,
all contributions are useful, and much appreciated.

Just a case of where the info should reside.
Thats a structure issue.

Timmo, no worries, I am happy to see other contributing information as well. And together we can make sure it is as accurate as possible.

Paul, can you explain your idea of the overview document a bit more? Maybe it fits in the draft structure I posted a week ago or so. I think we indeed need entrance (overview) pages for certain subjects that users can use as a starting point.
