• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

hi, below is a sample of a taxiway sign im making. after sleepless nights i was finally able to learn how to Uv unwrap and then bake textures. but now im getting this very poor quality of textures. is there anyway to improve this or uv unwrapping? would be much appreciated. PS suggestions needed how to fit many signs in one frame by keeping best quality i have over 21 of these. TAI. and would you suggest 3dmax or blender for this thing?

try unwrap smart project
same problem :/ any plugins would you recommend?

To get best quality in a bake , or textures in general, you'd want to maximize the space occupied by the polygons in the available texture space, and minimize any empty space, to that :
1-UV ==> Average island scale : this will scale all unwrapped faces to be equal in their proportional size.
2-UV==> Pack islands : This will redistribute all the faces in the texture space with the goal to maximize coverage.
3-Choose the most important faces like the front of the sign, and scale them up in the UV view, and scale down (sometimes to a pixel) faces that are not important like the back of the sign, move the UVs around manually to minimize empty space.

The whole goal is to have high texel density for the faces you want to be prominent, and much lower density for faces that are hidden. Texture space is a valuable asset, so minimize it as much as you can.
