• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello,

i'm new to this forum, yet i'm not new to the whole fsx stuff(i joined this forum, simply because you are the best this kind of stuff): got myself a virtual airline; have a good base on moddeling in gmax and 3ds max, i know my way well around programs like dxtbmp, paintshop pro,... And i have made over 45 (succesfull) repaints of aircraft:

(most visible here: http://www.torontopearsonatc.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7)

anyhow, this all leads up to the fact that im starting off with my very first FSX addon aircraft; from scratch... The Boeing Sonic Cruizer (the previous model for fs 2002 is doesnt display the beauty of this plane 'that never flew'.

okay, time for some pictures: i'm using 3ds max to make the model and textures, then i export it to 3ds and import it in gmax, wher i finally use the plugin tool that automaticly makes it a mdl file.
The first version of the model (without textures)

to try it out for fun, i patched it up with some textures (i really didnt try hard on this :) and then i exported it. this is what i got in flight simulator x (after putting it all in the right folder...

So the textures are inverted. i tried putting 'two-sided 'texture on, but nothing changed.

anyone got an idea? about that?
Thanks in advance,

Woutboeing

ps: if you have any tutorials on creating flaps and gears (the only thing i cant model yet), pls let me know too.

pps: so far my model has about 16000 poly's, i know that i can cut out many of those (the wings, the wheels, the tail can all be narrow'd down (in total at least 2000 can be cut easily), but im wondering, what am i aiming for here? what's the polycount of an average aircraft?
