• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

California Land Class

Hi all,

I have been looking around and it seems I am not the only one who has a problem with deserts. However before trying to fix the problem I wanted to try and understand it. Here in Central California the hills are mostly green - especially in winter and fall, they are sometimes the "golden state" color during summer but even that is rare just here, usually things are green.

The odd thing is that in the immediate vicinity of my local airport FSX has one small area that behaves as I would like it to - it remains green through all seasons, but landclass tiles next door all exhibit the dreaded yellow peril during fall and winter I have just about every type of landclass (including marsh wetland) all end up being brown/yellow.

Whats going on? is there a way to prevent seasons from changing the appearance of these tiles?

Hi Geoff,

I believe that patch of green you're seeing is one of the "parks" that are placed as polygon files. I f you load your area's cvx*.bgl file into the Terrain SDK's tmfviewer utility you'll see those areas as green colored polygons. They probably use a different set of seasonal colors with the assumption that urban parks stay green (irrigation) pretty much year-round.

There are a couple of approaches to prevent unwanted ground textures from showing:

* create replacement sets with appropriate seasonal textures (very involved)

* create local "seasons" files that prevent unwanted textures from showing (fairly involved, discussed in this forum)

* overwrite the existing unwanted textures with copies of more appropriate sets from the default texture base (fairly involved; see Garett Schmidt's texture mods at Avsim)

* create a local land class file that uses classes with more appropriate seasonal textures (fairly involved; limited choices with the default texture set).

Cheers, Holger
