• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Cockpit View

I am not an aircraft designer, I use FSDS mainly for objects, but a question. I have just downloaded an aircraft for FS9 that I wanted. Everthing was superb, except the rear left/rear right views from the cockpit did not include the outside views of the aircraft. I always think this adds so much realism and perspective, as this is a four engine prop it would look awesome. Am I right in assuming that this facility is part of the model file, and if so is it simply like a config file that you add the info for the views or is it much more complicated than that? Could the original model file be modified?

Hello Ivormills,

Do you mean 2D views or VC views?

VC Views are tuned in (dialed in or adjusted) in the Panel.cfg file in the panel folder of that aircraft. The interior will go to default if no angles are selected. If they are depicted, then that is what you are seeing.

Here is a set of views from a single engine aircraft. Note 'all' views are selected. Some will view the cowling, some will view the rear of the cockpit looking forward, so this will not fit well on your plane, but... You can use this as a template to learn from. Experiment with how to rotate your views and add zoom.

Oh.... One important thing. This is for FS2004. If you wish to add Camera views to an FSX plane, then you will (should or NEED) to read the FSX SDK on Camera Views in order to see how they work. They are 'almost' easier and do more things.

FSX Camera views are in the 'aircraft.cfg' file under the Registries sections.

Many thanks for your reply.
The view I mean is when you look out from the cockpit, rear left say, and you can see the outside of the aircraft, wing and engines turning. It appears that these ouside views (looking out) are not availabe on all aircraft, but only on some. It was really a case of asking is it possible to introduce these views if they are not visible, or is this built into the model of the aircraft?
Also is this a difficult task for the modeller, if not it seems pointless not to include these views.

Its a view that you can create 'in' the Panel config file in FS9 and a Camera view in FSX.

The views only operate 'in' the model, not a part of the model.

In the old days before VC's, they would do photos of views from seats in a real plane and use that in the base views, LF, RF, RR, Right, etc. Now you can tune them to be outside, angle looking back, forward, zoom with perspective, etc. Alot of cool things you can do.

Thanks lionheart, so if I understand you correctly, I can create an outside view of the aircraft in one of the cockpit 'view' windows (e.g. rear left) by adding the appropriate view data in the panel config file?
If so, an exaple of the basic data, which could be adjusted for each aircraft, would be great.

Yep. :D Thats what I posted above. ^

Simply take the Right Rear view (for instance) and increase the X axis of the view point to be 'outside' of the fuselage area, tune angle as needed (based on 360 degrees, with zero being in front), set zoom and Voila. Its all up there. Just change it to what you need.

Have fun.

Bill

PS: If the model maker didnt put a 'exterior' skin on the VC model, then you will have a horrible view of the fuselage. You may have to move things around so that you dont see certain area's of the model (if polygons are missing).
