• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Complete newbie, sorry ;-)

Hello guys,

I have decided to take up livery painting. I used to do this very crudely and quite some time ago. So I know VERY limited stuff. In PhotoShop
I have the Q400 paint kit loaded. I have since figured out how to rotate and flip sections and have the airline name and logo in place on both
sides of the fuselage. However my question is this. The official color of the logo changes, if I place the layer all the way behind the window line
and door markings as the blending mode is normal. Because the base kit already has its base shadows, the normal blending mode darkens the logo.
Is this an accepted method for livery painting? I can't move the logo layer any higher as then part of the logo will block the base door paint and decals.
I tried the other blending modes, but all completely change the logo color.

Thanks,

Xander

You'll need to reshuffle or edit the other layers to get your desired result. Or brighten the logo to account for the darkening effect from the shadow layer. Or play with blending modes and transparencies.

Many ways to skin a cat. ;)

I assume you have the Majestic paintkit. The majestic paintkit is a bit... more difficult...
So what I would do is to paint what I want to have on it (e.g. Your logo), put the layers ontop of all the base layers (Shadows, Dirt, windows etc.)
And change the mode from "Normal" to "Multiply" (which has worked best for me) or whatever mode suits you best.

You can scroll trough the modes and do some try and error which mode fits best. Altough I found "Color", "Overlay" and "Multiply" to work best.
Otherwise you could also try to bring the opacity down or just leave it at 100% in case of smaller logos or similar smaller things, the bumps will be shown anyways because of majestic´s spec maps
Hope that helped you out a bit! ;)
