• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Corruption Problem

I wonder if someone would give me some help.
I have FSX (Acceleration). Something has happened to some of my program files. My Smoke and Contrails are now streams of black squares. After some research, I found the files involved are:

fx_1.bmp
fx_smoke.bmp

Apparently, an addon plane replaced and/removed them with older versions. I copied the ones I have on another computer with FS9 and got some improvement so I know it's these files.

I looked at the CAB files on the FSX disks. When I tried to expand them, they appeared long strings of numbers and letters instead of files names.
Do you know how to find and extract these files from the CD?

If not, could I impose on someone to send a copy of them to me? I believe they should have file dates of 7/26/2006.

Thanks for any help you can give

Sending copies wouldn't be kosher.

Reinstall, and use the "Repair" option. This will replace any files that have been modified by add-ons.

Corrupted files

I am reluctant to use reinstall/repair because I didn't want to revert to an "out of the box" state. Some modifications such as texture and changes to aircraft.cfg files I want to keep.

Additionally I didn't want to restall the Microsoft Service packs or Acceleration because the original files write over them. Sometimes reinstalls cause as many problems as they solve.

Will of the above happen with the "repair" option?

Hi Arnie
I had the same happen to me after installing a new mission. In the end nothing helped but to use the repair function.
