• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 CTD after install in WIN10 64bit

Good evening, I have gone left and right looking for answers as to why FS9 is crashing to desktop after installing it fresh. As soon as I start testing addons, it becomes a Russian roulette, the addon may or may not cause a CTD and indicate that the FE.dll module is to blame, however.... I have NEVER used AI aircraft and all my sceneries and planes are scrutinously examined so that no texture becomes a problem. Initially I installed in the special SSD drive that I have for the sims, then I tested on C: directly and it is the same issue, one single texture can cause the entire thing to fail. What baffles me is that the texture while being properly compressed in the right format and size it will STILL cause a CTD, no matter what, this was NEVER a real issue in Windows 7. Lots of projects in hand and no way to even get started, any ideas?

Best Regards.
Ed.

Not having an issue with FS9 under W10 64-bit I've no immediate answers, but perhaps if you were to post some examples of the files you're having problems with there might be a chance of a resolution, or at least an analysis.
Statements like "the texture while being properly compressed in the right format and size it will STILL cause a CTD, no matter what" always make me a little suspicious, as it's obvious that something is not correct.
My initial guess would be video drivers or some similar incompatibility with the video hardware in your current machine ... do you still have an older machine to compare with?
Does the texture work if it's an "ordinary" uncompressed bmp and have you tried different formats and levels of compression?

Hi, no...my machine is, I7-4790K with a GTX1080 Ti (driver 446.14) . No problems what so ever with Win 7, but in 10 .... god all mighty.........😵 . I have indeed tested in different formats and levels, using DTXBMP and making sure everything I put in is checked with Imagetool / Alpha searcher/ DTX Fixer. The fault can be caused by either a simple texture which may be part of a scenery or an aircraft, I just don't get it... all of them worked well before and now I am being clubbed in the head if the sim does not like something. Sometimes something works, and sometimes not.
