• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

curved lines?

How does one make a curved line such as a curved pole? make a street lamp. Nice, tall lmap post; now... make another part and bend it to where you would like so you can hang a lamp box off it? Also, I've seen these nice tear-drop shaped lamp housings and nicely curved pole parts. The lamp box I started to get kind of close. I took a sphere and chopped off the bottom so to speak then went from there, trying to shape it. I'm sure that's the long way around. :) Bob

Warmingham. Thanx for the link. Will prove a great help. Two quickies. What is the difference between save or save as and package the project? Also- there's a command called split apart which I cannot activate. Is this for splitting apart joined parts? If so, once joined and I found I made a mistake, I'm sunk!

I learned really fast not to join my street lamp parts! Nothing showed up until night time! hahaha. Then I fussed with things and got my street lamp in day time, night, but dusk and dawn... no bulb! So I kept the day bulb, copy and pasted, made the new one dusk/dawn, repeated for noe for night. finally got the bulb to show up day, dusk/dawn, & night. I then did a light beam with 50 alpha. Wouldn't make the mdl. So I did your trick... saved that as part. Chose NEW, went and grabbed the part, saved as a project and added the beam in EZ scenery. Worked. Not too bad. I can always reshape the cone (beam) if I need it for other lamps. sure would like to know how to do the nice ground light as we see in esdg_ramp_lights! but then I guess many of us would like to know that!

Again, thank you Warmingham for your wonderful help. My stuff is on Avsim under the author name of Robert Lacy. David (Opa) Marshall has guided me through many a trial and tribulation. Sometimes he thinks he created a monster when he sees some of my warped humor here and there. Bob

Hi Bob, the first part is easy. Save - this saves the current project. Save as - this is what I use all the time - It allows you to save the project under another name e.g. Project Name - FSDS-Building.fsc - Save as - FSDS-Building-Version1.fsc (I don't usually put the version bit in, just the number. I have a folder with lots of 'versions' - one day I must clean up and delete them. But it allows you to go back and start again where you left off - if you know what I mean.
I do not have any experience with the Split Command but if you look at the FSDS Help there are tutorials to read and work through that mention it - search for 'Split' not 'Split Part'. Is is not what you thought it was. Sometimes when you 'Join' parts it helps to keep everything together. e.g. Sometimes I have noticed that when I duplicate a part it doesn't always stay where it is and when you look at it in FS2004 it gets elevated. This is when I use the 'Save As' it saves you a lot of heartache, frustration etc.
I too would like to know how to make the fuzzy edges for lights - one day I will crack it. I would think that they may use multiple discs with different shades of the colour you are using. Or it is an effect created with a paint program. One of the many things I have to do apart from reading the forum and helping where I can!:)

Package project? Not sure what that is. I always save as then when done and ready to compile I package it first.

Followed the tutorial and made a nice curved pole. Made another lamp for practice. Can't get the bulb to glow at dusk or night. Thought I did everything like I did on the last lamp. I missed something or the rules keep changing. :) 3 bulbs. one day with gray; one bright with emissive for dusk/dawn; one the same for night. bglc_9 doesn't like that. I remove one and I think it works. gotta trick it somehow. Changed the dawn/'dusk and the night to light_land and light_taxi respectively, still nada. In part properties for conditions, add - I have day, danw/dusk, night. They all show up in a list. Should there be only one for each bulb? Or should I leave the whole list thee and hilite one and hit ok, then do the same for the other two? Bob

Hi Bob, Package Project - Copies the project file and textures to folder in which you save the project. It copies everything I would think including the texture locations. This means you can make another folder with all your finished projects. I don't use it myself.
Bulbs - you must make one for each condition. Always remember that where a condition is used then you must re-name the object to that. e.g. LIGHT_LAND_day-bulb - the last bit does not have to be in CAPITALS only the part that shows the condition name. And as you have found out there are various quirks/rules to compiling that you have to follow. For every diffferent condition you must make another object i.e. one for each.

In caps- I'll remember that. The rusty lamp turned out ok. The pole is a bit skinny... I was afriad it was going to be too fat. Next time I'll just mdl the unfinished project and go see what it looks like before proceeding.

I see two lamps on one pole in some libraries. Can that be a real pain? I might have fun playing around with that idea. Bob
