• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

It's tough to decide whether this question belongs in the "Gauges" forum or the "Modeling" forum, since the question actually involves both subjects to one degree or another... :D

FSX allows us to create "Custom IDs" for click events. From what I can read in the SDK, and from examining the examples for the F18 in modeldef.xml, I see this format:

Code:
    <MouseRect>
      <Cursor>Hand</Cursor>
      <MouseFlags>LeftSingle+LeftDrag+Wheel</MouseFlags>
      <CallbackJumpDragging>
        <YMovement>
          <Delta>30</Delta>
          <EventIDInc>0x11009</EventIDInc>
          <EventIDDec>0x1100A</EventIDDec>
        </YMovement>
      </CallbackJumpDragging>
    </MouseRect>

Unfortunately, I throughly despise <CallbackJumpDragging> for many reasons, not the least of which is that I vastly prefer Left/Right click and MouseWheel. In addition, the above won't allow me to use my XML=> sound events.

Is there any way to use "Custom Events" other than in a <CallbackJumpDragging> scheme?

If there is, I've yet to discover one... :scratchch

Bill, why couldnt you use right click / left click?

Oddly, I was just converting an animation 2 days ago with this. It was for Flaps, but I wanted my own sound, and finally figured that FSX had the new version XML for it.

Because "custom IDs" aren't your normal K: events...

The "custom ID" is nothing but a number. The <EventIDInc> tag specifies that whenever this "number" is transmitted, it should be interpreted as an "increase" event. Note that this "number" isn't actually associated to any particular event at all!

The "number" is exposed to a C gauge, which when it "sees" that number and the "increase" or "decrease" event tied to it, will trigger whatever has been coded into the C gauge.

The question one might reasonably ask is why using a "custom ID" is preferable to using an L:variable. The answer is simple. "Custom IDs" are transmitted across multi-player, whereas L:variables aren't.

ahhhh sooooo..... (raises eyebrow as jargin flys closely over forehead)

I can only imagine what you are up to with such code technology... Couldnt be with 'Weapon' could it?

Nope! It's just a more efficient method for synchronizing 3d knobs and switches to a C gauge's "logic" routines, plus the only way to guarantee "shared cockpit" will work 100% of the time.
