• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Custom reflect map

Hello there,

Did anyone try to use custom reflect map ? I'm faced with problem - if
I use default it looks nice, so or so. But I'm try to change it (add
files into maps list as reflection map, and do not point checkbox "use
default map as reflection") - it looks like on second picture -
doesn't cover whole sphere, no depends on UV, no depends on reflect
map resolution...

Thank you,

It looks a bit like you only have one face of the 6 needed for the cubic environment map dds file.

If that is a cubic env map then the FSX graphic engine must be usign a different algorithm such as spherical environment mapping for custom env maps.

FSX uses a bog standard cubic environment map. There are plugins available for Photoshop that will "unwrap" cubic maps for editing as well as "wrap" them for sim use.

Hmm.. okay, but how to use them ? Mean I have map and then how to put my flowers everywhere on sphere ? Remember that is "reflection" mean it do not moving if object rotating... I can't find that in sdk.

Sorry for my English, hope you got an idea.

I first learned about environment mapping while using Caligari's TrueSpace modeler and animation system. In that system you would create the 'world' that you wished to have reflected on your object and then rendered the environment map. I'm not sure if you can use that system to make your maps, but the concept is the same.

By the way, TrueSpace is free now and you can get it at http://www.caligari.com.

Smooth air!
