• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Cut through fuselage polygons to make a door

Hi, I'm trying to make an animated door for an ai aircraft. Im trying to use FSDS to cut a whole in the fuselage where the door will go, but I'm not sure how to actually cut part ou tof the whole fuselage as all the polys are linked together. Any ideas? Thanks!

There are a few ways to do it, you can either use the Boolean tool - although backup your parts first as it can have lots of unintended consequences - and require some work to adjust it to how you want, or the slower way of adding a part and shaping it to match the fuselage then once matching the shape remove the polygons from the fuselage, join the parts together and create polys to fill in the holes. Both ways require work to get right.

Adrian- Here's a good way.

I assume you have your fuselage ready. … ok

Boolean tool -

1. make a cylinder in the shape of the door you want. 2. rename it tool … 3. arrange the tool across the fuselage where yo want to the door. 4. put the tool only half way through if you want the door only on one side..... all the way through if you want a door on both sides ant the same place on the fuselage. 5. hilite the fuselage and also the tool. 6. click on 'parts' in the menu and at the bottom is Boolean operation. click on it. Boolean will now do its 'thing'. 7. Now get rid of any part that has the word... 'tool' in it. 8. choose other parts and move them out of the way so you see each individual part and you can now see your cut. 9. you will see a part that looks like a door. you can use that later for your doorway!

If you want windows too, make those - let's say you want 5 windows on both sides. Make a window with a cylinder (tube) copy and paste each where you want them on your plane.

Now- very important...….. choose all the windows and door... highlighting them so they are 'chosen'..... join these!!! Renae the join as tool. YOU CAN BOOLEAN ONLY ONCE SO CHOOSE ALL THE CUTS AND JOION, AND RENAME THIS AS TOOL!

make note that you can save the window cuts and use those as your window glass if you are going to make the fuselage a see through with neat stuff inside. I am Robert Lacy in Skype if you wish to talk there. have funners!
