• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question (I hope).

I've been considering purchasing a FSGenesis mesh (38.2 meter) for the rocky mountain area but it will overlap with some other areas that already have their own mesh (Megascenery Denver) of the same detail level. I also have UT USA and Extreme Landscapes USA (76 meter mesh) but believe those shouldn't cause too many problems(?)

Does the order of the sceneries control which mesh is used when they're of equal resolution? If so, which should be loaded first or last to have it show up in the final scenery?

Just curious. I've heard conflicting information in a variety of forums and I'd like to make sure I know the answer prior to the purchase.

Thanks!

Prof K.

Thanks Peter! This does help clarify things :)

Sounds like it should be relatively easy to control equal LOD meshes by keeping them in separate folders and ordering them as appropriate. Looks like I'll be purchasing that FSGenesis mesh after all.

Hmmm... actually after further research I've already got the mesh from FSGenesis.

USA Extreme Landscapes by Abacus is actually from Justin Tyme of FSGenesis and includes not only the 38 meter mesh but the buffer meshes as well

Whoever pointed out that LWMViewer2 was now available did me a great service. I can very easily check out what terrain files are active in a given location and what their LOD happens to be. There is still the issue of source data resolution which can affect the quality of a mesh file even with a high LOD but at least now I know what's covered.

Thank you everyone! :)

Keep DEM Meshes in Da Right Location!

Hi Professor!

I think I'm that guy who "pointed out that LWMViewer2 was now available"...You're welcome! Hope I'll also be able to run LWMViewer2 sometime soon.

I've been trying to resolve the quandary over my limited AGP video card upgrade primarily to run LWMViewer2 vs. a full system upgrade knowing that I'll soon be wanting to go multiprocessor core cpu with twin PCI Express Radeon Crossfire ATI screamers when they get the performance up to par. I appreciate that ATI is reportedly pushing for top visual quality first before framerates, but the reviews state that there is a serious heat issue with the X1800 Radeon PCI-Express card, so I suspect there are still some developmental hurdles to be surmounted before we see the latest NVidia-killer Radeon released.

I saw this thread on mesh issues and thought you might find this discussion on the FSG forums interesting, as it deals with mesh prioritization and mesh install location issues; read about it at: http://portal.fsgenesis.net/index.p...viewtopic&t=2848&highlight=fs+scenery+library

There may be some additional factors which have a bearing on placement and internal mesh file LOD parameters which merit further investigation by Holger and others knowledgeble in mesh-making. I brought it to Steve Greenwood's attention at: http://www.fs-traveler.com, and he may consider following up on this subject at some time in the future with a post to his website's very informative "reference" pages; I understand that he's very busy with a special project right now, so we'll have to wait for his traditonally very thorough inquiry and carefully worded opinions on these matters of mesh. But in the mean time, perhaps Holger or his fellow illuminati might share some more insights with us on this subject.

CONTROVERSIAL IDEA::duck:When we want to summon one of the ubergeeks like Holger for input, maybe we could shine a spotlight with a maple leaf icon like the "Batman" logo on the FS clouds in FS users' flight sessions everywhere via the internet connections of the multiplayer subsystem of FS to get their attention. ...Or maybe we could develop an "FS Instant Messenger" system that sends an AI aircraft towing a bannner with the url of the forum thread requesting help into FS users' flight sessions ! (Just kidding, but wouldn't that be fun to try?)

I sometimes wonder if these guys Like Holger Sandmann (aka HolgerS/BC_Holger), Jim Keir, Steve Greenwood, Dick Ludowise (aka Rhumbaflappy), Arno Gerretsen (aka Arno, agerrius), Christopher Stock and numerous others can see the FS rendered 3-D world in their mind's eye like the characters in the "Matrix" movies just by looking at the raw code on the screen.:scratchch (Yup, thought I'd better put you in among the elite for all your generous expertise Arno! Hmmm, Mr. Gerretsen, or "Mr. Anderson"; Arno, or "Neo"; ...Some of us think you're "The One"!)

Speaking of movies dealing with rendering worlds, I'll bet a lot of FS scenery creators would get a kick out of the "Slartibartfast" character and his massively world-creative work in the movie "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" released not too long ago...Great fun!

Good luck with your scenery endeavors.

Hi Arno (ArNeo?)

Thanks, I stand corrected on your proper last name spelling; I must have been tired from too much computer work and didn't track properly.:o

I was thinking we might need more smilie icon types for use in the FS forum help spotlight (see above post) to be used for summoning the ubergeeks. This one:cool:is close, but for summoning "ArNeo", we probaby need some sunglasses which are a bit more avant-garde like those worn by the characters in "The Matrix". And then we'll need a utility to get the spotlight into the FS engine somehow. Hmmm...anybody know a resouceful FS utility designer with any spare time on his hands?
