• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Effects Headings

Has anyone else experienced a problem when placing multiple instances of the same effect into a single BGL that they seem to ignore the individual headings and just take the heading from a single instance?

In short, what I have is 3 police cars which I'm placing a strobe light effect for the lightbars. All 3 of them are placed at different locations with different headings. I placed the effect as a separate scenery object for each with correct coordinates, etc.

The effects are showing up in the right places, but only one is at the correct heading. The other two are at the same heading as the first. I have tried changing the order of items in the XML file and recompiling, but it always seems locked to one of them.

The effect, just so you know why heading matters, is a red and blue strobe spaced apart like a lightbar. So, if it's not right, then the colors are reversed, or one is over the hood and the other over the trunk, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts or experienced the same?

Hi,
Not so easy without seeing your effect.
You have to place the 2 strobes emiters in the same effect with particle offsets along X-axis and they should be heading dependant.

When you place only 1 effect, is it heading dependant ?
What about 2 bgl files with single effect ?

Thanks Alain, you got me thinking...

Here's what I discovered:

I set up 5 of them in a row with them heading 0, 90, 180, 270 and finally one offset at 45.

The ones set 0 and 180 are facing the same way (blue left, red right). The ones set 90 and 270 are a full 180 rotation (red left, blue right).

When I checked the 45 heading, it was 90 rotated from center (i.e. blue over hood, red over trunk of car).

Strange, eh? Only thing I can think of is "Face=1, 1, 1" is set on all particles. Would that affect it?

--EDIT--

Tested the facing, and when I do that, it definately affects the heading, but then the effects are 2D as they make use of halo.bmp.

Much better Alain, thank you!

What did you change so I can learn?

Looks like:
X-Axis Offsets on the emitters
Static Flag
No Interpolate Flag

--EDIT--

I take that back. :D I changed the headings to match the objects, and they still aren't right. It's like their tied or locked to one object.

That's it
Don't know why i should add static or interpolation flags. So I don't.
I previously experienced that particle offset is more efficient for this kind of effect.
Hope you can learn cause I 'm not a good teacher for effects I don't fully understand :o
