• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Elevon animation

Hello all,
I'm having a bit of a problem here. I've tagged my horizontal stabs on a project I'm working on as Elevons and have animated them. Problem I'm having, though, is they don't appear to be working when exporting... other animations are working, though.
What I'm wondering is, would there be a corresponding section in the Aircraft.cfg or Air file to make elevons work similiar to the nozzle animation?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks!

Jamal

I didnt know we had Elevons now in FSX. In the past, we had to animate them as elevators, then create invisible boxes that are super small and animate them as ailerons, then link the elevators in Hierarchy to the micro aileron box cubes, so that they had dual axis animations.

Perhaps this was an addition with FSX Accelleration and the SuperBug? I missed all of that.

Yup, there's an Elevon animation tag under animation tool AND a sim variable parameter! I suspect that there's supposed to be a section in the aircraft.cfg...

Ok, cool. I venture to say that the stock FSX Accelleration F18 Hornet will have the entry you need, probably in the geometry section.

Sorry I am not of more help.

In FS9, ELEVON_1_DEFLECTION through _8_ were available, but only as C gauge variables.

In FSX, while the same C tokens are available, there is only one XML token variable defined:

Code:
ELEVON DEFLECTION Elevon deflection Radians N

There is no corresponding entry for the aircraft.cfg file, nor is there any pre-defined Animation entry in the default modeldef.xml file, so I'm not terribly surprised that it's "not working..."

Hmm, I'm not sure which modeldef.xml I'm using, but the only custom animation I've made was for nozzle animation. The elevon entry was already in there... weird...

Has anyone managed it?

I work with FSDS 3.5.1.
For FS9 no Problem. FSX, I have no idea
I can only animate the elevators or the ailerons.
I test it with "lever_stick_fore_aft" and "lever_stick_L_R"
and no results.

it is pretty simple. Animate EACH taileron in ROLL using the L-aileron and R_aileron tags. Then create a box in the centre and link each taileron to the box. Make the tailerons operate in pitch by animating the box using the elevator tag

i have done this is Gmax on my tornado and it works fine

As a third option, I have also added a PITCH TRIM box, and linked the AILERON box to that, so they operate when the pitch trim is done
