• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fence problem

I made a fence to go with the PSK scenery, and I have encountered a problem that I have experienced before, but this time I thought I would seek help. For some reason the fence cancels out certain things behind it when you look through it. In this screenshot, it has canceled out the columns, the payphone, the pepsi machine, and parts of some of the windows. There are other instances of this problem around the airport, and its VERY obvious that its there. What is the problem and what can I do to fix it???

Hi,

Such drawing order problems often happen with transparant objects. If the fence is a seperate object the drawing order is determined by the distance to the reference point of the different objects.

An easy solution is usually to use DXT1 textures on your object, they don't have these problems. What texture format are you using on the fence now?

By the way, are you working with Fs2004 or Fsx?

the textures are in "32 bit" whatever that means. I am working with FSX.

Also, the night textures cause the trees and other autogen in the background to bleed through at night. Is this a problem that results from using an FS9 model in FSX? I ask because the same problem can be found in my MKJ scenery with the taxiway signs and the large "MOUNTAIN EMPIRE AIRPORT" sign when I use the scenery in FSX (it was made for FS9)

Hi,

Yes, that night texture problem is common when using Fs2004 MDL objects in FsX. It would be fixed by making the MDL in the FsX format, but FSDS does not yet support that.

I would try to convert your fence texture to DXT1 with ImageTool and see if that helps.

phew!!! I was hoping that was the case.... that means that as soon as abacus gets V3.5 out for us, I will be able to fix it and fly at night! KPSK is complete, by the way. Two projects are just getting underway now... KHLX and KBCB!
