• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flatten problem

Hi,

I have created, for FSX, two flatten files in following exactly the same procedure with FSX KML v1.04beta to correct the elevation of part of airfield boundary.

For the first flatten, the airfield boundary is corrected.

See Animation2.gif

For the second flatten, the elevation around the airfield boundary is modified, but the elevation of airfield is not corrected.

See Animation1.gif

I remake this flatten file with SBuilderX. Same result.

Do anyone have suggestion about this problem ?

???

I am not quite sure what you are asking. It appears in the second animation, that you have corrected the river elevation, because there is no more hump in the river. Whereas before it had negative interaction with the airport poly.

At any rate, in my experience to completely do an airport right, you have to first exclude the default airport background (Excude_AirportBackgrounds_MaskClassMap.... etc.) and then remove the default runways (via, a <DeleteAirport... xml construct), and only then will you have brought your airport area back down to raw mesh terrain data.

The reason for that is because it seems that both background polys, AND runways carry an elevation flattening algorithm with them. Some people don't realize that the runways also have a flatten built into them that extends beyond the boundaries of the runway itself, and in the case of some small airfields, a background poly appears to not even be necessary.

Once you have brought things down to bare mesh level, you can begin adding your correct elevation flattens for the reconstructed airfield. Or you could simply add runway(s), and see that they do some regional flattening of their own.

Taxiways flatten as well. And you are correct that you can get away without a background poly in certain cases.

Hi

Thanks for your comments.

Like I don't will modify the elevation airport, I have tried more arrangements of flatten and exclude files to fit it with the level of the river bordering airport. But no results (but I have been successful in an other airport).

I have finally resolved my problem in modifying the river site.
