• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 model export issues

Hello,

I'm working on some projects that are FS2004-based (dead platform, I know) and came across some issues with the FS2004 model export in ModelConverterX.
To reproduce this, load the default 737-400 model file from FS2004 and then export it to the FS2004 .MDL format.
This should show the following issues:
  • The transparency on the windshield is not preserved on the exterior model.
  • The rain animation on the windshield in the VC is completely stationary (always shows and the rain is not moving on the windshield).
  • The dynamic tail number on the exterior model has a reflective metallic background color.
I'm using MCX version v1.8.250804-devrel.

I've managed to identify a few causes for the problems I described:
  • The rain animation is a special case that requires a specific structure in the .x file in order to work. This structure is not replicated by MCX.
  • Most transparency issues seem to have two causes:
    1. On dynamic textures (prefixed by $), MCX seems to add ReflectionTextureFileName to the material. This then causes the background to become reflective, thus destroying any transparency.
    2. The opacity parameter is sometimes not preserved in the .x file. For example; it's sometimes 1.0 when it should actually be 0.5 or some other fraction.
