FS9 button grayed out

I can use the FSX and Other buttons but FS9 remains gray. I'm sure that before a recent uninstall and reinstall of FSX, I was able to use the FS9 button, indeed I previously installed some FS9 aircraft in FSX by using SAMM.
I have Win 7 and I'm using the program as administrator.
Any suggestion as to where I'm going wrong please?

I presume you are referring to the FS9/FSX/Other series of radio buttons on the main panel. If so, they simply tell SAMM where to look for aircraft.

Do you have FS9 installed as well? If not, then the FS9 button is intended to be disabled. Having FS9 models in your FSX SimObjects folder makes no difference. If you want SAMM to look for aircraft in the SimObjects folder, then you would select FSX - irrespective of the genesis of the aircraft models involved. (See the middle of page 3 of the user manual.

If you do have FS9 installed, please check that your registry contains the appropriate entries.

Thank you Don
I have FS9 installed but that's in C/program files whereas I reinstalled FSX in C/ - could that explain it? It won't hurt to reinstall FS9 in C/.

Shouldn't matter where FS9 is installed so long as it was installed with the FS9 installer and is properly recorded in the System Registry.

Please check the contents of "Software" registry item "Microsoft \ Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0", "EXE Path".

Well Don, what can I say - to my astonishment I now find that FS9 wasn't even installed. The desktop icon was there, it was in the Microsoft program files but no program as such. I, obviously, don't use it now so the problem didn't reveal itself until I started to rebuild everything after an FSX reinstall.
The FS9 button, in SAMM, is now normal and it's all working properly.
Thanks for your help.
