• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSDS Approching lights

Hi!
I try do make appoching masts with lights.
I can not find the right lamp for this purpose.
I have tried all the lamps and the best was the "landing_light.
However in the night the ground in the front will be lightend.
If I take a beacon it can be seen from the back.
Can you give me some tips?
I use FSDS V2 (FSDS V3 have no lights in my issue)

Hi Lennart.

If you are trying to make working VASI lights I do not think FSDS will do that for you, if this is what you want, I think I would have a look at ADE.

IF you just want some static light on a post then FSDS will do this, I would just make a light fixture and put the effect in side so that it can be seem from one side only.

Thank you Farfy for a rapid answer.
I building 20 masts in the end of the runway with decreasing hight.
I bulid them in FSDS V2.
I can put ligths on them but the lights dont work properly.
The best lights is to use the landing_ligths because they can only be seen from the front.
BUT in the nigth,dusk and dawn the will ilumminate the ground in the front of them. It look NOT good!
Do you know if I can find an other ligths which can oly be seen fron ond side?
If we can solve this I will be very happy!

I don’t have V2, I saw you mention FSDS V3 and …well once again I forgot to ask which sim you are working on FS9 or FSX.

I was assuming you had FSDS V3 and FSX.

But either way I am sure we can get your lights working.

I have both FSDS V2 an V3.
Regarding lights so can I only working with V2 because taht V3 to have any ligths in my issue.
I is strange
Than I working in FS9.
So FS9 + FSDS V2 ( or V3 if I can find out the lights).

My problem is how can I find a light which can been seen from one side only and not ilummninate the ground in the nigth.
If there are any other program which can solve this, am I very intressted.

Hi Lennart.

I do not know how you made your post with the landing light, but JP has a good idea perhaps you could adjust them to not point at the ground.

Next idea.

I am not expert with FS9 but I like to mess around so I dusted FS9 off and started tweaking the ASM file.
After a few tries I have a NAV_LIGHT that you can easily change the colour and it will only show from one side.

I have tried JP´s proposal by turning the landing_lights up.
90 degrees do not work but 45 is ok and 30 gives the best lights!
