• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I currently purchased FSDS2 and vs 3 to modify and build Navy ships and I have a question for anyone that knows about FSDS. I downloaded the Nimitz source files and attempted to compile the bgl in vs3 and the deck textures were all wrong. The rest of the ship looked fine though. I then copiled the bgl using vs2 and the ship was perfect!!
Only thing is, It's headed in the wrong direction!! I've been going over the manuel to find out how to chage the heading of objects in scenery and I haven't found anything on the subject. Before I start bugging the guys at Abacus about this I wanted to try somebody in the forums. If anyone has the answer to the question on how to change the heading of objects in FSDS2 please let me know!! Thank you.

Hi AJ

V2 is a scasm version. There is 2 way to save your file.

1-By creating an api and insert it into a scenery program like AirportForWindows, FSSC or other. That's the way I'm use to proceed using AFW. It is in AWF (or the others) to you modify the object heading and then create the scenery bgl file at the location you whish it to be.

2-Directly by creating a bgl object file. In that case make yourself a backup file of the original fsc file just in case ;)

Now go to first part (Part/First part). Normaly the part X and Z axis should be centered (0,Y,0). If it is not then you will have to move the center of THIS part to 0,Y,0.

Now, DO NOT do this by modifying the Part Properties entries. There is a hight risk that the whole universe would implode into a BIG CRUNCH and then you'd have to wait for another BIG BANG for God knows whow long and then another 15 billion years or so to press the UNDO key with a high risk of going into the reverse process to acheive it. And that's only a maybe if all works well during all that time!! And if it does, all this to find yourself having the whole world staring at you with a strange look in their face!

So, please, use the following procedure instead. PLEAAAAASE!

Click the TOP View to make it current. Set yourself in the Move Mode (you will see an M at the cursor) and, while pressing SHIFT key, drag the axis to the center of the sheet. I would magnify the view along the way to make shure I get axis center as close to sheet center as I can.

I would save the fsc file at this point.

This being done, got to Edit/Select All (or press "a" key). Set yourself into Rotate Mode (R at the cursor) and in the TOP VIEW window only, move the mouse cursor until the whole object gets properly oriented.

Now without saving the file, Create the Object (bgl) file and check the results in FS (I assume you have set the right object center positions in Project Properties). If it is not oriented as you wish, go back to FSDS Top View, make the necessary corrections and recompile. Repeat until satisfied or... disgussed!!

An other way would be to slew into position in FS. Visualy orient the aircraft to the heading you would like the ship to have. Take into account the local mag vrariation to get the heading in TRUE degre. In fsds top view, rotate the object to about this value. Check the rotation into Part Properties window but don't change any entry there or you know what! Exit!! Make correction in
top view until you get it right in PP window. Exit! Compile. You should get the ship correctly oriented in FS.

OK that was for V2

V3.

I gathered that the Nimitz source file you have was developped with V2. It seams that sometime when these files are imported in V3 and compiled it may leed to the sort of bugaboo you report. Some even mentionned that the object apprears like having exploded (have they jotted around with the Part Properties entries? Ya know some people realy like to play with fire!). It maybe the V2 files uses some peculiar scasms commands that can't be readyly implemented in the bglcomp/makemdl world.

Have you tried to compile the Nimitz file in V3 without changing anything to it? Does the texures come right in this instance? If yes, then posibly by modifying the heading in xml file and recompile with bglcomp could give you the correct results.

Is there a way I could get my hand on the Nimitz source file. I could use it to test my HYPOTHESES (but one!) and report back.

Ok, got the fsc file but would need the textures as well to carry on the test, hum? ;)

I doubt you could attach them to a post in here. So the best bet would be that you indicate me where I could download the original package, here or through a private message, if possible.

Alternativaly send me a private message and I will return you an email address where you can send them to (zipped), provide it is not over 5MB in size.

Otherwise you could upload the file to a transition site such as YouSendit http://www.yousendit.com/ where I would get it.

Below, the needed texture list,

Hugo
