• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS Solid perspective view problem

Hi All,

My new computer can't display all of the parts in FSDS solid perspective view. I get missing wings, missing parts of fuselage, etc. on static aircraft. Objects made from boxes are usually OK. Wire frame view is OK - the parts only disappear in solid view. It isn't just my models either, the demo models have the same problem.

The computer is a Dell XPS710 with an Nvidea 8800 graphics card running Windows XP Media Center Edition

Abacus says to update the drivers, which I have done three times over the past few months with no change in the problem. I just downloaded FSDS ver3.5 and it does exactly the same thing.

Has anyone else out there seen this same problem?

Thanks,

Larry

From my readings of different posts, etc., it appears that the Nvidia 8800 card is "too advanced" for XP and many applications. Some have ended up either going to their previous card, or upgrading to VISTA. However, I"m not a hardware expert and you should do (a lot) more checking out of this before committing to any hardware/software change.

The problem also exists on an nVidia Quadro FX AGP card (several years old) and a 7800GS, so if it's hardware/driver related, the problem's been around for a while.

If I "work through" the problem it sometimes rectifies itself, but most times it crashes with a DirectX error.

Unfortunately it looks like one of those "it's not my fault, it's his fault" scenarios where each player has reason to blame (or at least suspect) the other party, so no-one takes responsibility for the problem:mad:

Thanks for the replies guys. At least I know that it's not something stupid that I did to cause the problem. I find that Abacus' "Virtual Aircraft Scenery Studio" displays the models correctly, so what I'm doing for a work around is use wire frame in FSDS and switch into VASS when I need to see the solid view.

One thing that I've done is install VASS to my FSDS "plugins" folder, so that I can call it from the FSDS plugins menu. (Okay, so I'm a bit lazy....)

Nvidia+FSDS2+Perspective draw prob

Yes sounds like prob I've had since installing Nvidia 256

Textures don't appear untill I zoom so far in I can't see the whole Part. IF I go back to onboard graphics(ATI limited to 128) everything works ok, but then the CFS2 goes a little jerky.
Can't afford seperate PC for design work( at least not yet. I did get a Direct Draw message something like "render target buffer lost". Tried patch MWG.dll, no use. I've spent two years getting my head around FSDS2, and am now very miffed with whole rigmarole. Obviously FSDS being a Niche market Nvidia don't care too much that their cards won't run old software. If you come across a patch or workaround please tell me. OH, don't try using an earlier Nvidia driver as I did. It Crashed my PC and my only resort was to re-install Windows. My Sympathies to YOU

Hmmm...I don't know that it is a hardware problem, because it was running just fine on my NVIDIA card until I did a directX update (can't remember which one) then...same as your indications. I have since switched to GMAX and although the learning curve was steep, and many things were easier to do in FSDS, it was a worthwhile endeavour.
