• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS3 Makemdl Error

 I recently upgraded to FSDS3 from FSDS2. In FSDS2, I created a model of a U.S. Navy Destroyer that one is able to sail around on the ocean in FS2004. And it worked. However, after upgrading to FSDS3 I continued to work on that ship model. But when I tried to creat an "FS Object .mdl file", the Makemdl program produced an error, and did not install the ship in FS2004. Here is the error I am receiving:

I posted this on FS-Plaza, and site admin recommended that I contact "arno"

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Humm, I have never seen that error before. Can you still find the file called _temp_0.asm in your FSDS3 folder? If so I would be interested to have a look at it, it seems there is a wrong value set in your texture list somewhere.

:) Hi arno,

Thanks for the reply. I tried uploading the file. But an error message came up that said, "the size of the file exceeded my quota."

I'll try sending it to you via regular email.

Hi,

OK, there is a size limit on the forum indeed. I have not yet seen your email, but you can send it to arno _AT_ scenerydesign.org

asm file

Well, I was able to solve the problem by converting all the model textures to 16 bit, vice 24 bit. And everything worked just fine. That was some days back. Now, FSDS3 is doing it again. I checked the textures, and found out that somehow they are all now 32 bit. Not good. And, I didn't do a thing to cause that problem. So I used "DXTbmp" to convert all the textures back to 16 bit. No success. Then tried 8 bit, then DTX1 format. DXTbmp converts them just fine. But after FSDS3 process them, they end up right back as 32 bit textures. Amazing to say the least!

The only thing I can think of now is to try and reinstall FSDS3. Maybe some file got corrupted or something like that. If that doesnt't work, then I am going back to FSDS2 permanently!!!! I found from previous programs made by Abacus, that there is no use in contacting them for any help. Customer support is NOT a hallmark of their company. :banghead:

Am sending the _temp_0.asm file via email. Maybe someone can see an error in it.

Thanks

Hi Skipperoo..I have not had this prob with V3..I do know Makemdl can give all kinds of errors as FSDSv3 sends it to it..especially if your model was done in FSDSV2..For a texture to change from X to X this does sound like a PC problem somewhere..nothing should be re formating your textures

Hi Skip, Just thought I would give you my experiences with textures and FSDSv3. A colleague mbaviator and I have been having similar problems with simple shapes never mind a US Navy Destroyer. Firstly I think that there is a bug in FSDS that creates this, but it doesn't work all the time unfortunately as to be able to say it was because of ...., so I suggested that we copy our textures from the main FS folder to the folder that holds the .fsc files. this seemed to work on many occasions. The other thing I suggested was to shut down FSDS and re-start perhaps on another model then switch to the one you're having problems with. I know it seems an awful lot of trouble and I do not think that this is the solution either but it seemed to help.

I agree with warmingham, it´s a bug alright. I get some objects with areas with no texture for no reason at all. It does not happen always but it does when you never expect it..I will try his two methods. I can recommend what warmingham says for good reasons!!!!:o :o :o :o

Keep plugging my friend............

Here we go again ! Look what you started Warmingham. Ooopss, I think I was the one that got all the mess started over a simple brick texture, lol.
Ive never had any other version myself except for ver 3. And it has been
a major pain in the rear the last week.

Maybe we need to start sending Abacus some emails concerning some of these problems we've encountered latley and see if they can help.

Ive had textures work correctly many times then all of the sudden they wont even show up any more. Its definately a bug somewhere.

As per some advise Im gonna reinstall FSDS3 all over and see if that helps. I will post if it helps or if it just downright explodes will post that as well.

And I also have done the shutdown and start on another model and still had same results.

Of course we have seen a texture work on one machine and then not at all on another then quit working on both machines. Even had some I used and then for reason wasnt anylonger recongized by Image tool or DXTbmp.

Hey mbaviator, you are scaring the daylights out of me!!!!!

I don´t feel like starting to learn G-Max:laughing: ............

This may help, you have to use the file name so it has no spaces ie newship.mdl instead of new ship.mdl.
