• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Georeferred scenery object

Hi, this my problem. I wanto to design in FSDS a scenery with 2 objects; i don't know the position (distance and angle) between the 2 objects but only the FS geographical position for each object (for example N46 03.9553, E11 06.1153). When i try to design this object in FSDS i can set the geographic center location for the scenery project (from file-> scenery proprieties). I can place the first object in the center of the scenery so i'm sure it is in the right position. But how can i set the geographical reference for the second object ?
I hope someone has a idea to solve the problem... thank you very much

Hi,
Try to make two separate objects (2 FSDS projects). You will be able to place the second easily.

hi jean Pierre,
thank you but the problem is no so easy, because the 2 objects are start and final station of one cablecar so i have to create an animation between the 2 stations and i need to have both object in the same file/scenery... :(

If you are going to animate a car to move between the two towers it is going to be ONE object not two.

You will simple have to do some testing with two cubes to find to proper distance, angle and altitude for the second tower once you have figured out where to make the second tower then delete the test cube and build the tower.

NOTE the terrain settings for the game will affect your project greatly and if you up load you project for others their settings will need to be the same as yours.

I would:

Cut a geotiff file with the cable car end locations on it

Flatten the area at the REf point 0,0,0 in FSX to a known altitude.

Use the Geotiff as an accurate template by measuring the edge lengths and applying to a cube or plane in FSDS

Change the shape of the template using altitudes in FSX from the various scenery elements' locations.

Build the cable car onto the terrain.

You may need to export a couple of times to adjust heights.

If were a way to import a profile of the terrain, as as dem file, or shp files, and then you visually could work as in situ. I don't know very well what I am talking of, but anyway would be a good chalenge
or yes, as said above, if you know every point and his height of the towers and his distance, could work too,

On a topo map, is it possible to know the exact distance between the two objets. Then, in FSDS, after setting the first objet, place the second reporting this distance on the canvas. I thing this will be an trial-error process.

Hi, i'll thank you all for your replies, i've got from you some good tipps. Finally, i' ve use a mixed way: in the backdrop of the top-view i've set (and resize in the right scale) a google-maps image of the location. Then i have designed and set the 2 stations in the right top position and after i've simply try to move up and down the 2 cablecar stations (and check reslults in FS) for finding the right altitude for booth. So it goes but it will be very intresting to find a "not-trial-error process", but for now it's ok. Thank you, bye.

PlanG is a very useful tool for making sure that real-world locations end up being exactly where you have things in the sim. Because the map used in PlanG is actually google maps, and can be set to map/satellite/hybrid modes. So for example, you can locate a hospital helipad looking at the satellite view in PlanG, move your aircraft right to that location (simply by right clicking in PlanG) and then saving your flight at that spot, and placing your object exactly where the aircraft is. Not only will the helipad be where you want, it will line up with the actual location on the real-world map. Very nice combo is Instant Scenery (flight1) and PlanG. Throwing real-world hospital, buildings, etc, up in their true locations becomes quite quick (relatively).
