• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I've come back to flight simming after having been away a few years. The last time I did any scenery work was with FSX and ADE. At this point all I want to do is some simple modifications to stock airports...correcting taxiways, parking spots, etc. I've read about and looked at videos about using the SDK to do this, and it's all rather confusing. Can someone suggest a good tutorial for doing just these simple things? I don't need to drown in information and technicalities. Thanks.

Hey, welcome! Actually we have two MSFS' already and 2024 is even more contrived than 2020. Being versed in FSX will really give you a hand up, however. The extra complexity is to provide more capabilities, stability and security and once you understand the pattern of the VFS and file structure, I'm sure you'll feel right at home. Federico, mamu gives some of the best tutorials I feel, on whatever aspect. Definitely find his campfire video when you want to master effects. As to the default airports, they are a little trickier than a new airport, but completely doable. We can't edit the default airports directly, I think it was the same in FSX. You just write a new one, exclude the things you want to overwrite and add the things you want to add. The new Scenery Editor is like having ADE overlayed in the sim.

Thanks. Yes, it was the same in FSX. A modified version of a stock airport overrode the stock version, assuming it was in the correct folder. From the videos I've watched the Scenery Editor looks very similar to ADF, so I'm sure I'll get the hang of it once I figure out how to get started.
