• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Arno

Just a possible bug report for the Ground wizard.

Everytime I 'saving setting to file' using the button on the Ground Polygon Wizard dialogue it save ok but if i try to load the file back MCX always crashes, giving the following error.

'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

dont know if it helps any but clicking the details button gives this :-

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hi,

I'll check. I did not use that option recently so a bug might have slipped in while I made some other changes to the wizard.

I too am having issues with this wizard. I thought i had solved the problem but its back and unfortunately its not working anymore.

Previously i have used the process of converting using MCX a KMZ file to an MDL file since this allows me to convert my textures to DDS etc.

I then use the polygon wizard to convert my mdl to a bgl, (typing in the correct coordinates of course)

For some reason when i ask the wizard to convert, it simply freezes and thats it. Initially i wondered if some large artefacts had got into my KMZ file and subsequent MDL files and so i flushed my KMZ file. This seemed to work. However it worked once only, now all i get is a freeze. I have tried splitting my ground polygon in case it is too large. Using lower texture file sizes but nothing works.

Any suggestions. The event log doesnt even give anything.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but i thought it would save yet another one. I have tried this with several versions of MCX too.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Can you send me the file that gives you trouble? Then I will try to debug it here.

Hi Stevo,

I took a look at the crash with the settings. It only seems to happen when I try to load a file before I select the object. This is not supposed to be allowed. I guess you did the same. I will adjust the wizard so that you can only load settings after an object has been loaded.

Hi Tom,

You are lucky :), I can reproduce your problem here. The file indeed takes very long to process (or you can say it hangs). I am debugging the issue now.

Hi Tom,

I fixed the issue now, there was indeed an endless loop. If you get the development release tomorrow it should work.

Arno that's excellent news Im pleased it is something that can be solved.

Thanks

Hi Arno

Yes i did the same. Just downloaded the new development release and it's a lot clear now...load model, then settings. I thought loading the settings would also load in the model.

regards

Stevo ;)
